Rtnoww posted a long, rambling and erroneous comment to our podcast episode, "Why do all new dishwasher suck?" He claims that we are incorrect in saying that one of the purposes of rinse aid is to help dishwasher dry the dishes. In this short screencast, we show Rtnoww with Whirlpool's own technical training documentation why we are correct and how he is just plain out to lunch on this issue. Here's the link to the original podcast post page ==> http://fixitnow.com/...shwashers-suck/

Academy Fellow Kurtius expertly guides us in this repair kata:

I find removing the outer door panel is helpful...remove the 6 screws, 3 left,3 right on the inner door edges.
Next spot the galvanized strip above the sump access...it has a plastic wire channel attached to it and a screw holding it on either end. Remove the screws and have a helper hold it up out of your way, no need to detach the wire channel.
The only other thing in the way is a corrogated plastic hose slipped into a hole in the sump...simply pull it out and move it to the side.
This should give you enuff room to get at the small plastic release tab and twist the pump out of its position.
Hope this helps!

How to test the keypads on the touchpanel of a Whirlpool dishwasher

whirlpool, dishwasher, touchpad and 2 more...
If you have a flashing light above one of the keypads on your Whirlpool dishwasher, the keypad may be shorted. This does not apply to the Clean Light blinking in a sequence of seven blinks, pause, seven blinks, etc.; more on that here and here.

The dishwasher's tech sheet is located behind the bottom kick panel. Remove the panel to retrieve the tech sheet-- it has a procedure for testing the key pads on the touchpanel.

But in case someone with sticky fingers done stole your'n, this awwta git it fer ya:

from the tech sheet:

PROBLEM: Won’t Run and LED Above Key(s) is Flashing Rapidly

Short circuit(s) in keypad or in control’s input lines that read the keys.

CHECKING KEYPAD OPERATION

A rapidly blinking LED over one of the keys of the keypad (or sometimes a “dead” keypad / console)

indicates one or more key switch lines are stuck or shorted on either the control or the keypad.

To determine if the control or keypad is faulty, do the following test:

1. Unplug dishwasher or disconnect power.

2. Open the dishwasher door.

3. Open console and disconnect the keypad ribbon connection from the control (at P1).

Make sure all other connections are made.

4. Put console back together. Do not close the dishwasher door.

5. Plug in dishwasher or reconnect power.

6. Wait 5 seconds.

7. Close dishwasher door.

8. Monitor the control’s response:

➔If the control is OK (no longer sees shorts with the keypad unplugged),

it will respond by turning on a Drain Motor for 2 minutes.

Check and/or replace the keypad if the control responds OK.

➔If the control is not OK (still sees shorts with the keypad unplugged),

then the drain motor will NOT respond and will remain off.

If no response, replace the control.

If a keypad does turn out to be shorted, the fix is to replace the touchpanel ==> Touchpad and Control Panel
