Frigidaire FEZ831AS1 stack laundry unit: washer has no brakes, tub free-spins; doesn't agitate clothes

Posted by Samurai Appliance Repair Man, in Washing Machine Repair 30 March 2011 · 619 views

Example model number:  FEZ831AS1

The most annoying part of this problem is that as it agitates, the agitator goes one direction and the basket spins the other. So the clothes never agitate they just spin with the basket.  Makes you think the basket brake is broken.  Except there's one problem, Sublime Master appl.tech.2901 explains...

this machine doesn"t have brakes...it coasts to a stop. that the reason it has a lid lock. yes you have a bad transmission. If your going to tackle this repair you should replace the spin bearing and seal as well.

- tub seal

Kenmore HE5t washer with error code F71 and won't run

Posted by Samurai Appliance Repair Man, in Washing Machine Repair 28 March 2011 · 847 views

Common manifestation of this problem:  no lights on the control panel and when you press the power button, you just get three or four quick beeps.

Do the test on this page.  If unplugging the blue harness from the MCU results in the control panel lighting up normally like the machine wants to run (but can't because the blue wire is unplugged from the MCU), then...

Whirlpool LA9500XTWO direct-drive washer agitates fine for a bit and then goes clickety-click [video]

Posted by Samurai Appliance Repair Man, in Washing Machine Repair 24 March 2011 · 250 views

The weirdness starts about halfway into the video:

And Master Nickfixit nails it:

recheck the motor harness connections, make sure the harness is fully seated. Some machines had an extra 2 wire harness connection that can work loose, these were 3 speed motors.
