A Christmas Eve Service Call on Smarts Mountain

Posted by Samurai Appliance Repair Man, in Hillstomping Update, Samurai Incarnate 24 December 2011 · 2,080 views

The Samurai is ready to go wherever and whenever there's a broken appliance! No place is too remote for a service call from the Samurai. Here's a Christmas eve service call I made today to a home on the summit of Smarts Mountain with a broken Dacor range.

Smarts Mountain
The view from Lambert Ridge heading up Smarts Mtn. near the outset of this four mile hike to the summit where the house is.

ice flow on the trail
Hiking up the glacier. Oh yeah, the Samurai does all-terrain service calls!

Firetower on Smarts Mtn.
There's a fire tower at the top of the mountain. Oz Man and I stopped by to check it out.

Oz Man doesn't like the fire tower.
Up top inside the fire tower. Oz Man doesn't like it!

But nice views!

unhappy customers
When we came down from the fire tower, we met the customers who lived on the summit. I couldn't put my finger on what it was, but they had a little different vibe about them and something told me I was in a for a surprise on this one. They were also pretty upset about their broken range.

Service call location
Now we arrive at their house. Complaint was a Dacor electric oven that was completely dead-- no lights, nuttin'. I quickly determined the problem: no power supply and not just to the oven-- no power running to the entire structure!

Heading down
They seemed to understand my explanation that they needed electricity to make an electric oven run. Since it was getting late, they invited us to stay for dinner.

Rat Kabobs
They were making rat kabobs. I thanked them profusely for their kindness but, since the Nativity Fast was still going on, I declined and opted instead for some snacks I brought. The Oz Man, however, enjoyed munching back on several roasted rats. After a fine meal and much merriment, the Oz Man and I headed back down the mountain to spend Christmas with the family. Ho ho ho!

Backpacking in the Pemigewasset Wilderness

Posted by Samurai Appliance Repair Man, in Hillstomping Update 09 July 2011 · 630 views

Went on an overnight backpacking trip Thursday and Friday in the Pemigewasset Wilderness thru the Bonds: Bondcliff, Mt. Bond, and West Bond, the "Jewels of the Pemi," with my Samurai Spudlets™. Caught sunset on West Bond. Camped overnight at Guyot campsite. Hiked out via Mt. Guyot, the Twinway, South Twin, Galehead hut, and Franconia Brook Trail to make it a nice loop hike. Turn your speakers up and check out the slideshow here. Best viewed in fullscreen mode.

I didn't have any cell signal the entire trip. Mucho domos to all the many fine Masters who kept the Samurai School going while I was gone especially Reg, appl.tech, kdog, john63, CTG51 and scottthwolf! (apologies if I left anyone out).

Hillstomping Update: Mt. Sava with the Oz Man, 3/15/2011

Up the Ammonusuc Trail and down the Jewell Trail. Amazing conditions for these last few days of winter: snow was still stiff, consolidated and buoyant, warm temps (around 0F with wind chill), and full on sunshine on this bluebird day. Lots of other hikers out, too-- look for 'em in the slideshow, best viewed in full-screen mode with your volume turned up so you can groove on the soundtrack.

Hillstomping Update: Mt. Moosilaukee Moonwalk

Posted by Samurai Appliance Repair Man, in Hillstomping Update, Samurai Incarnate 11 March 2011 · 552 views

Gorgeous hike with the Oz Man up Mt. Moosilaukee. Up and back via the Glen Cliff Trail. Only saw one other pair of hikers today and they turned back before reaching the summit. Too bad because it was one of those days on the summit that was so beautiful it was surreal.

Turn your speakers up and check out the slideshow. Best viewed in full screen mode. Enjoy!
