Sears Kenmore / GE refrigerator only dispenses crushed ice, no cubes

Sears, Kenmore, GE, refrigerator and 2 more...

Not unusual for the solenoid actuator for the metal arm of the icetray auger to seize up. It is located above the actuator stirrup at the back of the freezer - the actuator pin gets froze up and seizes and the solenoid melts down. Part Links below:

What does the run capacitor do on a compressor and how does it affect compressor starting?

compressor, starting and 1 more...

Since it is a running capacitor, it should have no bearing on the starting of the compressor - it's purpose is to "phase" the start winding after it is running to reduce the power factor and consumption rate. The compressor should start and run with that cap disconnected, or you have an issue with the relay (ptc) or the compressor itself.

This little video explains the ADC system used in GE's newer top-mount refrigerators, the so-called "TMNF" line.  Example model numbers are:

GTH/HTH 17 cuft
GTH/DTH/GTS/PTS 18 cuft

In the video, I explain I how this ADC works and how to put it into manual defrost mode.  (Short answer:  Press the fresh food door switch 3 times within 5 seconds and close the FF door when the control is not in defrost or dwell.)

Condenser fan in a GE refrigerator runs slowly, compressor hot; how to test the condenser fan

Posted by Samurai Appliance Repair Man, in Refrigerator Repair 03 May 2012 · 700 views
GE, refrigerator, muthaboard and 1 more...

Check the voltage going to the condenser fan, should have +12vdc on the red wire with your common probe on the white wire.  Make the measurement with the fan connected.  Easiest to check it at the muthaboard.  See this reference:
