Retrieving Fault Codes Stored in a Bosch Dishwasher Control to Help Troubleshoot a Problem

Bosch dishwasher not heating? Stalling in cycle? Not filling? Some other weird problem? Wouldn't it be nice if you could get just get some clue about what's wrong? Well, you can!

All Bosch dishwashers (and most modern appliances that use electronic control boards) store fault codes pertaining to specific areas the appliance is having a problem with... or at least the areas that the control board thinks is having a problem. Anyway, it's a good place to start. These control boards all have a secret key dance to enter that secret service mode and receive those error codes.

Now, for the first time ever in the history of the Interwebs, Brother PDuff reveals the super secret key dance to enter service mode and retrieve the stored error codes. Let's listen in...

You can try to access the test program to retrieve possible fault codes:

With the door closed, press and hold the second and fourth buttons to the right of the display while pressing the On button.
As long as these two buttons are pressed, the associated leds will light, then the display will show the model coding identifier. Release the two buttons.
Press the same two buttons to display any stored fault codes:

0 = No fault
1 = Fault in Hydro Sensing system
2 = Heater fault
4 = Fill fault
8 = Fault in NTC system
16 = Water switch cannot be positioned

Note: If more than one fault is detected, the fault code is added up. Ex: Fault code 3 = fault 1 + fault 2.

Press Off to exit.

Frigidaire Refrigerator Survival Kit

Posted by DurhamAppliance in DurhamAppliance's Blog, 09 February 2014 · 701 views

Finding Frigidaire manuals is a bit different from other manufacturers.
The Style and manufacture date are more important than the model number.

Once you know the manufacture date for a fridge, simply pick the last manual produced before that date. If you don't know the date, you can always click here ,http://b2b.frigidair...ort/manuals.asp and download the owners manual for the model and you will see the manufacture date bottom right on the first page. You can also get wiring diagrams there as well.

Note that there is one manual that covers SxS manufactured 2007-2013 except there is a 2009 manual produced for the Iceman Version.

Currently there is only one manual for their French door bottom mount fridges and only one manual for the standard bottom mount. So if your customer says he has a bottom mount, you need to find out if it is a French door or not.

Right now There is one manual that covers topmounts since 2010

I am having some difficulty uploading dropbox files to the download section so until they are uploaded here, some of the files are from my dropbox account. Put these files on your tablet and you should never be without the proper manual.

PS Any additions or suggestions are welcomed!

OEM Drive coupler vs Off Brand coupler. Looking for a sloppy motor shaft during replacement.

Posted by applianceman97 in applianceman97's Blog, 29 January 2014 · 262 views

For the non direct drive whizzes. Here's what i found on one of my latest service calls. This drive coupler was changed (The other used appliance store said) 4 months ago. This shows the difference between an OEM heavy duty coupler and an off brand junker! If your burning through couplers you could have a wore out motor shaft. The end of this video shows a wore out shaft and how to tell that you have one. The only way to fix a wore out motor shaft is to replace the motor.

Coconut Lime Chicken Soup

Posted by Mrs. Samurai in Mrs. Samurai's Kitchen, 10 November 2013 · 726 views

Here's a Thai-inspired chicken soup that is easy to make and bursting with flavor! It's healthy comfort food with an Asian twist.

Posted Image
Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil, ghee, or butter
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1-2 pounds uncooked chicken breast, diced
  • 1 inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and chopped fine
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced, divided
  • 1 quart chicken broth (I use either homemade or a box of low sodium, no added MSG.)
  • 1 can coconut milk (look for this in the Asian/Thai section of the grocery store. I prefer regular, not "lite".)
  • 1 lime, juiced, divided
  • ¼ tsp. red pepper flakes
  • 4 scallions, chopped
  • ½ bunch cilantro, chopped
  • salt, to taste
  • optional: Thai fish sauce, cooked rice
Directions

Heat a soup pot over medium high heat, then add the coconut oil. Saute the onions with a little salt for a few minutes, then add the chicken chunks with a little more salt. Cook, stirring frequently, until chicken is just cooked through. Add the ginger and half of the garlic towards the end of this.

Stir in the broth and bring to a boil, then stir in the coconut milk, half of the lime juice, and the red pepper flakes. Reduce the heat to low and simmer covered for at least 15 minutes (longer is fine, too).

Turn off the heat, and add salt to taste (depends on the amount in your chicken broth). Stir in the rest of the garlic, the scallions, and most of the cilantro (leave a little aside for topping individual bowls). Add the rest of the lime juice if desired. Cover and let sit off-heat for 5 to 10 minutes, then serve.

Great served over rice. Add a few drops of fish sauce to your serving to knock the flavor out of the park!
