  5. I have a Kenmore Series 80 Gas Dryer. The dryer came with the house. I cannot find a model number or serial number on it, and actually, the Kenmore name on the front appears to be covered in white out. So I can't be more specific about the model. The unit is not running - but the timer is, and it won't stop. We had a load which more or less successfully completed the other night as the clothes were dry. When I went to get the clothes, I found the timer had advanced to the next cycle. The unit wasn't running though. I found that if I set the timer to any normal cycle, I'd get a buzzing sound, but nothing much was happening. There was also a smell - a vague burning smell. I took the unit apart, pulled out the drum, put it back, etc. When I opened the top back, it seemed to me that the timer itself had a latent burning smell. Since the timer had advanced when it shouldn't have; since I could manually turn the drum and motor and saw nothing wrong with the belt; and since the timer itself smelled faintly as though it had burnt out; I went ahead and order a new timer. I ordered a Whirlpool 3976576A timer. It arrived, it is an exact match. It does not solve the problem. In trying the new timer, though, I found that the timer-won't-stop thing is persisting. I left the timer to go on its own for a few minutes to see if in fact it would try to advance into a cycle. It did, though the unit still won't run. But there is clearly something burning. It is much more obviously something electrical (as opposed to the belt). I found the smell really wasn't present inside the cabinet, but it is present inside the top back panel where the timer is, and it is also present further below following the line of wires. I can't, on visual inspection, see anything wrong with any particular wire. The control board does not look amiss either, and it really does not seem like the smell is emanating from the control board. But I can't pinpoint the smell exactly. The problem, to me, is obviously electrical. The timer won't stop (when the door is closed); the unit won't run no matter what. When the timer is in a cycle it is buzzing. I do have a multimeter but I frankly don't know what to even try and test. I don't usually deal with electrical issues like this. I am hoping that the description of the problem sounds familiar to someone and they can point me in a clearer direction.

  14. Not exactly sure I'm in the right forum for this question, but it's kind of a mixture of two... I got a call this week from a moving company.  They wanted me to go out and take a look at a washing machine (LG WF410ANR) that a client of theirs said was no longer working after the move from California to Tennessee. The moving company, of course, was responsible for any damages.  It was explained to me that the moving company hires a third-party technician to come out and prepare the machine for a move like this.  Not sure what that entails exactly but the lady on the phone seemed to suggest they take it apart a bit and stabilize the drum, and whatever. That's all I really know or she knew. The problem was that the drum wouldn't turn.  I tried a diagnostic and got error code HD 43.  That's not in the manual.  Didn't find anything with a net search, so I say factory code, move on.  I tried turning the drum by hand but was only able to do so with great difficulty.  It was definitely scraping the outer tub.  Upon inspecting the back of the machine I noticed that the bolt holding on the rotor seemed to be nicked up a bit. Odd... Now I've only taken off that bolt maybe three or four times in my short experience, but it's always been fairly easy to do so.  Maybe I've just been lucky in the past, but when I tried to get this one off it wouldn't budge, and I'm no lightweight!  I eventually had to go out to my vehicle, get a hammer, and pound on my wrench in order to get it off!  Didn't see anything out of the ordinary after I finally got it off. I noticed on the front (see pics) that the inner tub was misaligned. (Uncentered?  How would you say that?)  I stuck my finger in the gaps on either side, there was about 1/2 inch difference.  What I'm wondering are basically two things:  Could the third-party tech have bent something by tightening that bolt too much?  If so, what, in your opinion, would have gotten bent, or broken?  The rear drum support?  I ask because this is getting beyond my experience, and the moving company says they may possibly seek compensation from the third-party for damaging the washer.  I don't think the movers would be able to do this without breaking or denting something else, like dropping it or something.  Other than this, the machine didn't have a scratch on it. Opinions please?

  22. First time post! I've got a Kenmore Electric Range #790.92109010; I'm guessing around 8 years old. I just noticed a rather high pitched soft noise during preheat (400*), and once it reached the desired temp, the oven kept on clicking on and off (much more than normal...every 5-10 seconds). I noticed that the oven power light kept on clicking on and off as well.  The stovetop seems to do something similar; working fine if it is turned on high, but quickly cutting on and off (faster than usual) during heating (medium low heat).  The clock and other functions seem to work fine. I took the back off to check for any loose wiring to power cord or operating board; all looks in good condition. The only thing I have done to it recently is reattach the display when it broke off. Thoughts? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

  24. I realize that my washing machine is no spring chicken, but since I live alone and only do a load every 10 days or so, overall it hasn't seen as much use as it would otherwise with a normal sized family. Recently I had to replace the coupler thanks to a seriously out of balance load. That repair was uneventful, and I was able to run one load normally. However, since that one load the machine has taken to shutting off at random points during the entire cycle. When it does that, I will unplug the machine, push in the knob and wait for 5 to 10 minutes. Then I plug the machine back on, pull out the knob and the machine resumes running as if nothing happened. It will usually do this two or three times during a cycle. I've checked all the connectors (they're on tightly) and the lid switch (nothing wrong there), so I'm baffled by this problem. Does anybody have any idea what might be going on? TIA!
