  1. I have an Amana ABD2233DES refrigerator with a bottom mount freezer. Fridge compartment was warm, compressor was running and the damper was open no air was coming in. Fridge had some ice on the center-rear of its floor (like where the cold air should have been coming up from the freezer compartment. Freezer had a lot of ice frost buildup on coils.  Thanks to the videos I discovered the tech sheet and put it into service test mode. Defrost Thermostat was S" for open. I observed the damper door opening and closing. I put it into forced defrost mode. Compressor shut off and the defroster heating rod came on. There was so much ice I had to go through about 7-8 forced defrosts and I used a heat gun to melt.  I have ordered a new jazz board. My question is: While I am waiting for my board I need to continue to use the fridge and I'd rather not have to throw away any more food!  My plan is just to force defrost at least 1x per day. But then I realized that I have no idea if that will be enough! I guess I never really noticed/paid attention to the defrost cycles before so how do I know if the defrost cycle is continuing to fail to initiate on its own? About how often does a fridge operating properly, defrost? If I find that there is a bunch of frost buildup and/or the fridge isn't keeping cool - can someone point me to the way to do a longer/deeper forced defrost? Is doing manual forced defrosts until my board shows up in a week a wise strategy? thanks all,  Steve

  4. I have a built in kitchen aid fridge that has a bent hinge on the fridge side. I am looking for a little advice on the repair. I am planning on changing part number2006779. My question is, can I change this hinge similarly to most hinge jobs on standard fridge using a support under the door to hold it in place and then unbolting the hinge itself. I am unsure if it is reccomended to change any other parts with the hinge. The washer and other parts look great. Any advice will help.

  12. I have a KitchenAid built-in refrigerator (model KBRC36FKS00) and the fan keeps icing up.  The fan ices up more frequently as the humidity outside increases, and I know that too much air getting into the refrigerator/freezer can cause the problems we are having.  I can easily fix the frozen fan by turning off the refrigerator and opening the freezer drawer, but I don't want to have to use this remedy all of the time.  I have checked the drain pan, which has water in it, indicating that water is draining out so the drain tube must not be clogged.  I did read one place that there is a foam kit for this type of refrigerator, and I wanted to try that.  However, I cannot find any foam kit for the model. Does anyone else have advice about how to fix this?

  16. Hello,   my mother who lives in Jamaica, has a GE PROFILE PGSS5PJXB refrigerator/freezer and for the past few months both compartments have been unable to maintain their temperature (both fridge and freezer are running warm). She has lost weeks of groceries and has had several repairmen come to look at and assess the problem to no avail. We assume that the technicians in Jamaica are not that familiar with this technology and are unable to find the source of the problem. One repairman stated that the gasket around the door may be faulty, it was replaced and no change. The other said that it needed refrigerant, which was added...no change. Both repairmen expressed that the compressor and fan are working properly.  She has become very frustrated that no one seems to be able to identify and fix this problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  17. The freezer side is cool enough to be the fridge but will not freeze ice. The Fridge side is warm. The evaporator fan is running and there is no compressor fan that I can see. The compressor is warm to the touch. The ADC was changed a while back (again) and the unit ran fine. The compressor starter capacitor was also changed by someone else. (Why is not known) The unit will intermittently start working correctly. Some times after moving the temperature controls. What should I check.   Thanks Paul
  18. I've got what I think are 2 unrelated issues with my Whirlpool fridge model GB2FHDXWB02 with an ice maker in the freezer.  The ice maker appears to work sporadically.  I think the shutoff arm is shutting it off every time a new batch of ice is made.  I couldn't find if this model has a spring to reset it or not.  When I manually push the arm down it makes ice fine but then eventually shuts off again.  Anyone know how I can fix this?   Also recently there seems to be a scratching noise coming from within the fridge.  My wife thought it was a dripping noise so I pulled the fridge out to check for puddles but there were none.  When I moved it back the scratching noise really started acting up again.  I found one post for a samsung where someone said they defrosted the coils to resolve a scratching sound in that model but I don't know if it is the same issue.    Thanks for reading,   Matt   p.s.  I have already fixed the condensation tube issue for this model with the helpful video from you guys.

  21. It's been doing this for a while.   Issues in the freezer are:   Icy stalactites near the front.   Icy buildup where the bottom and back panel meet.   Coil is a tad frosty but the ice is soft and wipes right off.   There were a few icy chunks on the back of the foam piece.   Issues in the fridge are:   Top shelf gets too cold: water drips on top of containers, collects and freezes; spoils produce.   Water collects on bottom of fridge to the point I can't use it for storage plus it will eventually leak out the door.   Rubber seal at top left corner of door is worn; gap showing.   Also seal from bottom left corner all the way across bottom is completely loose but when closed it stays in place.    What I have checked so far:   Took back panel off of the inside of freezer(almost, finicky wire housing clipped into back wall does not want to budge; yes I tried squeezing the sides) to check if there was a plugged drain but I can't see where the defrosted ice goes after the hole cut in the center of the 'channel tray' below the coil. I stuck my finger in there and it stops about 3/4 to an inch in. My model doesn't look the same as other photos I've seen on forums where some of these issues have been discussed.   I've never actually witnessed water dripping into the fridge from the freezer above but the ice buildup on the lids of containers and the quasi-pool at the bottom are a dead giveaway.   Not very fridge savvy so let me know if I forgot something. My main concern is the fridge but I fear it may all stem from above.   I don't have a camera.
  22. Went out on a call tonight on an Amana fridge not cooling. Freezer back wall had heavy frost and temp was around 22deg. Fridge section was around 60deg and hardly any air coming through the damper.   Compressor, comp fan, evap fan, lights all running. Ran diagnostics through the display and the only thing that was abnormal was the defrost thermostat read "O" for open. So with the freezer at 22deg I am going with   changing out the bi-metal. I did try the forced defrost per the tech sheet and heater never got came on (to verify the bi-metal). I did NOT pull the evaporator cover off because of time issues. First time on a bottom   mount freezer so if you got some words of wisdom or wise cracks. Bring it. Thanks!
  23. Samsung RF24FSEDBSR/AA fridge icemaker keeps frosting over. Recently replaced icemaker, icemaker fan and motor asm, flapper and bin seals. And still doing the same thing. Any suggestions?
  24. I have a GE Mongram fridge that recently started leaking water in the back. I noticed ice buildup on the insulated line from evaporator to the compressor.    From troubleshooting Cleaned condenser coils Frost buildup on compressor line The freezer works fine and may be over working. (set to 0 and at -4) No frost buildup on evaporator The evaporator fan works fine Not much air coming through damper. I can't tell if the damper is open. Diagnositcs have two modes (duct test, damper test). In the service manual I don't see anything related to ducts. When I do a duct test I hear something, a damper test I hear nothing.   I am going to start by opening the fridge side and seeing if I can check the damper more thoroughly. I think my biggest concern is, would the damper being bad cause the line to the compressor to start freezing?   Travis      While it is in the subject I forgot to mention that the fridge is warm and I don't feel air coming through the delivery holes.
