  7. I have a Kenmore Series 80 Gas Dryer. The dryer came with the house. I cannot find a model number or serial number on it, and actually, the Kenmore name on the front appears to be covered in white out. So I can't be more specific about the model. The unit is not running - but the timer is, and it won't stop. We had a load which more or less successfully completed the other night as the clothes were dry. When I went to get the clothes, I found the timer had advanced to the next cycle. The unit wasn't running though. I found that if I set the timer to any normal cycle, I'd get a buzzing sound, but nothing much was happening. There was also a smell - a vague burning smell. I took the unit apart, pulled out the drum, put it back, etc. When I opened the top back, it seemed to me that the timer itself had a latent burning smell. Since the timer had advanced when it shouldn't have; since I could manually turn the drum and motor and saw nothing wrong with the belt; and since the timer itself smelled faintly as though it had burnt out; I went ahead and order a new timer. I ordered a Whirlpool 3976576A timer. It arrived, it is an exact match. It does not solve the problem. In trying the new timer, though, I found that the timer-won't-stop thing is persisting. I left the timer to go on its own for a few minutes to see if in fact it would try to advance into a cycle. It did, though the unit still won't run. But there is clearly something burning. It is much more obviously something electrical (as opposed to the belt). I found the smell really wasn't present inside the cabinet, but it is present inside the top back panel where the timer is, and it is also present further below following the line of wires. I can't, on visual inspection, see anything wrong with any particular wire. The control board does not look amiss either, and it really does not seem like the smell is emanating from the control board. But I can't pinpoint the smell exactly. The problem, to me, is obviously electrical. The timer won't stop (when the door is closed); the unit won't run no matter what. When the timer is in a cycle it is buzzing. I do have a multimeter but I frankly don't know what to even try and test. I don't usually deal with electrical issues like this. I am hoping that the description of the problem sounds familiar to someone and they can point me in a clearer direction.

  11. Looking for assistance with finding a replacement Felt Drum Liner for a Maytag Neptune Dryer MDE9700AYW.   I am having trouble believing that there is no replacement available, but that is what it is looking like based on other forums.  It is felt of a certain length attached by heat resistant glue.  Any guidance would be appreciated.  Right now the only guidance was to buy the whole drum unit (Drum Roller) with the integral felt (approximately $216 on one site).  That is unacceptable in my opinion from a company like Maytag. This forum has helped me replace the motor and control panel for the twin unit washer MAH8700AWW.  Let's see if we can do it again! ==========Some Relevant Articles that may help or reinforce my doom================ http://www.shopyourway.com/questions/1157067 http://www.appliancepartspros.com/answers-for-whirlpool-seal-w10612022-ap5737110-question-63234.html http://www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-drum-w10296563-ap4502407.html http://www.partselect.com/Models/MDE9700AYW/ http://www.justanswer.com/appliance/71bxm-maytag-model-mde9700ayw-drier-when-spins-sounds.html

  16. Okay, this PitA of a unit is going to drive me to drink(more).  Went out there in December because the lady complained that the unit would not run through a whole cycle and would not heat. The unit would start at the normal time but within 5 minutes would shut off. The countdown advanced similar to how it would if you had nothing in it and the sensors didn't detect any moisture. The unit did this on all cycles, time based and sensor based. So even a timed dry of 40 minutes would drop time quickly and end cycle. I found that the heating element was broken and grounding. I replaced the whole element, cleaned out the unit and tested it. It ran through fine, heated normally, no more weird countdown problem.  So a few weeks later she calls me back saying it's doing it again. So I sigh, make the long trip back out to her house and test it. It is doing it again, but this time I have a handy dandy air flow tester for dryers! So I check air flow with the ducting on and off and get two very different readings. I try running the unit with the vent off the back and sure enough it runs like a champ no problems. Okay, plug it back up and check outside to see what's going on. Not seeing much air flow outside, looks like a possible ducting issue that's presenting really oddly. Inform the customer and I'm on my way. So I just checked my phone and saw a text message from her saying it was doing that stupid countdown thing again. At this point, I'm completely stumped. I couldn't find anything wrong with the main board when I went out there the first time, just the issue with the heater. The second time the unit started working normally with the ducting off, indicating to me there was a air flow issue. I have no clue what I'm in for this time but I'm hoping someone else has seen this or something like this and can give me an idea of something to check for because I, quite frankly, have not a clue as to what's going on.
  17. Hello all, Writing in hopes that someone could help in diagnosing some problems I'm having with my Maytag MAVT446AAW washing machine. When it tries to agitate it just hums and gives off a burning scent...  I think the motor pulley is spinning on the belt, which isn't moving. I tried the "unofficial" test of holding my left hand on the drum and putting it to spin.  Without any pressure it does spin, but I can very easily stop it from spinning with my hand. I installed a new transmission pulley/thrust bearing kit, but that didn't seem to do it.  The hand test, I've read, indicates a clutch replacement is necessary - but I'm unable to locate a clutch part on any of the parts sites - is it built into the transmission on this model? ...or might it be something other than the clutch? Thanks!

  20. Estate Dryer (by Whirlpool) Model #ETW4400WQ0 Dial sticks on rinse cycle. It will fill fully with water but then the clothes just sit there in the full tub of water (no agitation or any other process runs at that time). We have to manually push in the dial, turn it to spin and pull the dial back out. It doesnt do it all the time but it does it frequently. Any ideas how to keep it from continuing to  stick? Thanks!
  21. Returned to the dryer to find it running, clothes dry, clothes not warm. Lint screen was loaded with lint. Timer was still in original time setting.  Cleaned out lint  in preparation for next load. The dryer would not start no noise, nothing.  I did rush out to buy a new thermal fuse before the dealer closed up. Came home and figured I would trouble shoot and learn my way around this repair before simply swapping out the thermal fuse. Thermal Fuse, Push to Start Switch, Door Switch and Thermostat all tested positive (continuity) while isolated. I made a jumper wire lead with alligator clips and decent old extension cord. Drum Motor and Timer Unit (in turn) operated normally while receiving power straight from 120v outlet. Timer Unit tested positive for continuity at black to blue prongs, but at brown to tan prongs, did not make it all the way over to zero on my analog multimeter. Good grief...starting over, I bypassed the thermal fuse by fixing together both blue wire terminal with a thin bit of tape stretched around both. Set the timer, pushed start and it started right up with good heat. I tested the old thermal fuse again and still shows good. At this point, the heck with trying to save ten bucks on the fuse, out came the new fuse. Hooked it to the blue wires, NOTHING. It will only run if the fuse is bypassed. Please help! Thanks, Therm
