I have a whirlpool gold side by side model GS5SHGXLB01 with an icemaker (can't find a model number but it is labeled "icemagic plus") that is making a popping noise when it tries to dump ice.  Occasionally it will not dump ice and ice making stops until ice is manually cleared into the storage bin.  This icemaker appears to be one of the newer modular models.

You might see if the ice cubes are too large or have protusions on them and are hanging on the ice stripper.  If this is the case the cube size can be turned down to prevent this problem.
