GlitchDrive is having a bad hair day... AGAIN!  This time, it's not sending out access links.  A couple of you have recently subscribed to Live Help and are anxiously awaiting your access links.  I have a support ticket in with Xdrive and have spoken to them on the phone.  I didn't get a warm-fuzzy that the problem is being handled.  I've been through this before with them and I'll just have to stay on them like stink on sh...

I'll post updates here.  Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your patience.

HELP! SOS....

I get the sharing email but when I click on the link I get a log on screen to register or sign in. It requires a password and either an email address or AOL screen name. I type in my email address and it still wants the password. How do I get a password if I am not registered? Make up one?

Hey, you got the access link-- PROGRESS!

Yes, make up a password.  It's YOUR account that you're creating.  So use whatever password is meaningful to you.  I will not have access to this information.

Thanks but I already tried that and it said I had an invalid password. Good grief.

I swear, Xdrive hates me... sheesh. I tried a different password... same thing.

OK, Xdrive must still be struggling with the gremlins.  I'll send you out another access link and we'll just keep trying.  :argh:

Also just to clear up a bit of confusion. The email says I must use the email address that the message came to. Then it says it must also be the email that is used on my paypal account. I did not use Paypal to pay for the admission and used my alternate email address which I recieved the invite to.  So should I use the invite email address which I did in this last instance or my Paypal address?  I believe Xdrive recognizes that Paypal email address with my other Xdrive account which is why I couldnt register the first time.  <head spinning> :(  (probably making your head ache)

Obviously, the Paypal stuff doesn't apply so don't get hung up on that.

The text at the login page you posted the link to also says this:

Signing in is easy!

Sign into our network of sites with your Screen Name or e-mail address and password.

Learn More

So, they're simply encouraging you to use an AOL screen name but it's not mandatory since they also say you can just use your email address.

BTW, I log in with my email address, samurai@fixitnow.com.

If you're still unsuccessful at logging in, let me know and I'll refund your money today.

I understand that, and it wouldnt allow me access to your xdrive either way. When I originally signed up I used an AOL screen name and it happily assigned me an Xdrive account but no access to your xdrive.

Access is far more important to me than the money.

OK,  sent you another link.  Discard the other links after you get this new one.

Update:  Apparently, GlitchDrive surreptitiously changed their login requirements.  It appears that they've implemented a sleazy ploy to gain more AOL users by requiring an AOL screen name in order to set up an account.  OY!  So, just try it their way, set up your screen name using the email address I sent the access link to and then set up your Xdrive account.  I did a test with Mrs. Samurai and this what she ended up having to do to create her account.

Great to hear it wasnt all me... LOL

Now pretend I am in the 3rd grade so I wont screw this up... step by step please

I go to xdrive and it says click here to get a free screen name. It takes me to the AOL free email page. I am to get an email address and then it becomes my screen name? Doesnt make sense does it so it sounds like I am missing something here. In other words if I use the newly setup AOL email addy which doesnt even ask for my real email addy and password as a screen name that bypasses my email address from the link you send. That is how I got in this mess to begin with because it says I already have an xdrive account when I use the original AOL addy they assigned to me.

So I guess I am losing the connection of what is the screen name I use. Am I supposed to go farther in establishing a screen name? Is the AOL addy not the screen name?  Do I enter the Username@AOL and then my username@AOL email password? Im just losing somewhere how I use the email addy you send the link to in the registration process for your xdrive.

Sigh I am such a pain in the Arse but I dont want to screw it up again friend. :(

Yes, I know, I hate that silly A(nal)OL screen name BS and it had me all confoosed, too.  But, being the Samurai an' all, I applied my legendary kidneys and figgered it out.

The screen name is NOT an email address, it's just a name that you make up.  Fer ezzample, my screen name in A(nal)OL is "Zenzoidman."  But I log into Xdrive with my email address, samurai _AT_ fixitnow.com.  It appears now that Xdrive is an A(nal)OL property, part of it's long, slow descent into Hell is now herding people into getting and using an A(nal)OL screen name.

Im headed home from work but just wanted to let you know Im in! :)

Had to lie about my first name so you can call me Jerry if you want.... LOL

But its a go. For anyone else who cant figure it out, I went in and signed up to the AOL email and used the email from the Samurai to launch the signup page and entered the first part of the email name (just dont need the @aol.com part) and the password, once accepted enter your first and last name then it will take you to the xdrive launch page. Launch it and you will see the site for sore eyes.... all those honorable Samurai  writings from the master!

Does Glitchdrive have some self imposed speed limit? Trying to figure out why 90 percent of the downloads get reset by the server. Im thinking because my ISP is downloading at over 500kbps and it cant keep up? Ive tried finding ways to slow down the rate of download but that hasnt helped yet. I can download small files but larger ones get same error. I cant even open up one and view with the viewer... locks up the browser.

I did have some success early in the AM around 5AM but that only lasted about 4 files and back to "the connection with the server was reset"

GlitchDrive has various and sundry issues and they seem to come in waves.  When it's running good, it's humming.  But when it's having problems, watch out!

Are you trying to download files using the icon in the tool bar up top?  That's how you should be doing it.  You want to just click the file name and let it download, and it'll even act like it's doing it, then you'll get error messages like the one you reported.

Yes, I have selected the file and used the download arrow at the top, and I have clicked the file name, and I have right clicked and saved, just about every way you can. Too bad you cant use gozilla or something that will restart the download when you lose the connection. Appearantly it wont work on a secure server.  Ill just be patient and wait for a good hair day.. :) Was just curious if it had a limitation to download speed or number of simultaneous files selected. I would download the whole drive if it would let me... LOL

You might find it easier to select and download an entire folder.  Xdrive will zip it and then begin the download.  Slick when it works.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well after all this time still cant download much. Almost every situation and every way ends up with a server reset. Seems Xdrive wants you to store your data there but not download from there. They are bandwidth restricted or server poor one. If you need a small file you can do well, but large pdf files always get killed before you can get them downloaded. Forget about whole folders. Xdrive will indeed zip them and then fail to download.

Anyone else share the same problems? Is it my ISP? I can download 700MB files from other sites OK so I just dont know what is up.

Have you seen this topic: http://applianceguru.com/forum8/11699.html

Here's the salient post from Sublime Master Poobah:

After much troubleshooting and the such I am happy to say that I can now download everything of X-drive....here is what we found out (kindof makes sense to me, you being the Samurai Guru will prob. understand completely, or be like the tech's we spoke to and said they had never heard of it)

We ended up changing out the modem...while trying to download a file from x-drive it would fly through the first 3.0mb or so then say the file is completely downloaded, then when would try to open thats when it would say corrupt file) come to find out after we ran a speed test the DL was about 60% faster than UL...the info was coming in faster than it could be processed and when the file said complete it was about half done. I don't know if that makes any sense or not but thats what we were told.

The modem was one of the first ones they had when Charter came into the area and started offering DSL. After we saw wat it was doing last night we went to my cousins house and got his modem and it worked perfectly. I went to the local supercenter last night made a new modem purchase and walla! everything is good. Like I said I don't really know if that is possible but it is working now and that is what matters......Thank you for your time and effort Samurai.. .. maybe this will help someone else down the road....

Check your ISP and modem as described above. If no joy, try Xdrive support. Let me know if you don't get anywhere with them.

Yep....I fought that same thing for 4-5 months....as Samurai posted I ended up changing modems and that took care of my prob.  The file would start to download and get abot 3.0mb and then all of a sudden say the file was complete, me knowing there was no way it could have did it that fast.  then after trying to open it it would say corrupt file couldn't be fixed and it would reset .....I could do files smaller than 3.0 but any larger would  do the corrupt thing.....We traced it to the modem because it did the same thing on both computers linked on the router....we did a bypass and each computer did it independently....bet thats your prob......

Oh yeah I could download any size file their was on e-mail or just about anything else but not x-drive thats what drove me crazy...who is your ISP?  We had Charter who got bought out by Suddenlink....our old modem was a webmaster, webworld, weblink or something like that

I have cable internet and use a Surfboard cable modem by Motorolla. If there is any problem it would be with the Gigabit Lan on this Opteron motherboard with Nvidia chipset.
