Bacharach equipment... Is it junk?

Hello all,

 

I was always told that Bacharach made the best combustion analyzers available.

Not too long ago I purchased their Tech 60 analyzer. Granted it’s not one of Bacharach’s top of the line models, but it was still about $440.00.

From my experience, reliability has been such a problem that I could never justify the risk and expense of upgrading to any of their higher priced models.

Less than four weeks out of the box the circuit board failed. Had to box unit it up and send it of to their repair facility at my expense, $35.00 insured. Got it back, three weeks later, still not working. Called tech support and was told they had a “known issue” with the circuit boards from their supplier and must have replaced it with the same board. Boxed it up and back it went at their expense this time. Unit returned after three weeks, now finally working. A few days later the plastic water trap/filter barbed fitting snapped off. Called tech support, said they had a “known issue” with the design of these plastic housings, so sent me two as an act of contrition. Now, the oxygen sensor has failed and so unit must be shipped of yet again, at my expense, to have the probe replaced and be recalibrated. Equipment abuse has not been a factor, and since Bacharach’s doesn’t seem to care about marketing equipment with “known issues”, I am looking for a different brand of analyzer.

 

Does anybody here have any recommendations? 

 

P.S. I am also in the market for a new recovery pump. Can anyone recommend an oil-less pump that will hold up well for residential size system recovery?

To finally answer your question, when I used to sell HVAC parts and supplies, Bacharach was the only brand of combustion analyzers we sold, but I did take back alot of them under warranty.
