Worst Waser/Dryer install ever...

We just did what has to be the most ridiculous washer/dryer install I've ever seen.  Full size Duet pair, stacked, in about a 32" wide closet on the second floor.  Vented at the rear, up through the 13 ft. high ceiling.  Electric and water at the left hand side in front of the washer/dryer.

Ha.  Ha.  Ha.  I can't imagine with we'll have to charge to work on these when it comes time for service...  I think it took our delivery crew close to three hours to get it installed...

The worst washer and dryer install I ever saw was a Maytag Neptune stack that looked like they built the closet around the washer/dryer because the stack was taller than the closet.  I wonder what they are going to do when parts are NLA, Hmmmm.

It's easy, just tell the customer that they must get it out if they want service to be done.

I don't really have any sympathy for customers with appliances that are installed in stupid ways.

Yeaper, it says so in the fine print in the service contract... unit must be accessible... I rely heavily on that one...

I was on a top-five worst today, Asko washer and dryer on a second-floor of a beach house under a fixed counter and in a custom-built raised-lip fiberglass drain pan. The fuse blew on the dryer and it took me about fifteen minutes to get it out and fixed. Took an hour to get it back in as the vent had to be lined up perfectly which I finally figured out could only be done with the washer pulled out. Then the fun part was getting the washer back in and on top of the 2x4's it stood on to match the height of the dryer (also on 2x4's to line up with the vent).

I've seen a lot of bad ones, but the one that comes to mind is one that hits close to home, or at least close to Mom's home.  Mom's vent in the Condo is 3" PVC :yikes: with at least 3 elbows to make it to the rear of the complex some 40 feet away.  So we have a minimum 3 elbows and then another 40' going through 3" pipe.  No one will do anything about it because the whole complex is like that and they can not get to it without knocking down walls.  They wont do a thing about it and of course Mom blames the Whirlpool dryer for the long dry times and thermal blows.  All the super said when I spoke to him was, it's only a inch difference, how much of a difference could that possibly make?:headbang:

You would think there is but I could not tell you for sure, the Condo complex is about 9 years old.  I printed off the installation instruction for the Whirlpool unit as well as two other brands and gave them too my dad.  Of course the super (property Manager) didn't want to hear crap from me and wanted to know why no one else had ever told them this little bit of information.  All it accomplished was my dad states they clean every ones vent on the property twice a year via a set schedule.  I have never seen them do it but the old man tells me they spend about 1/2 hour each time.  You know how it is Nick, what do we know, the Super and his brother the Plumber say it's fine!!!  Can't get anymore official then that!!

I did have one install where they forgot to include a vent for the dryer, what a bunch of dumb *&%$#.

I had an install in a mobile home where you had to get the washer and dryer down the hallway to the laundry room...no big deal right..?..except for the water heater they installed right in the hallway against the wall.....we had to bench press both machines over it to get by it....

had a dryer in lower aparment vented up 9 feet into ha ha  ha the ustairs dryer used the same vent up 9 ft throught that cealing, then up 16 more feet to the roof. delinted the dryer in Dec.of 07 told the cust to speak to the landlord..went back in june lint fire burned the top 1/4 inch of lint. if  it could have gotten air it would have been sad. i asked if she had spoken to the landlord, she had but he refused any help, so i told her to call the state fire marshal, left the the burnt lint and photos......we have not been back and have noticed service trucks there,, later found out they are trying booster fans on all 300 units

We need to just refuse to service these stupid installations. I had a call yesterday that the lady said it took 6 guys to get the machine into the spot she wanted. Not only did it need lifted over a kitchen counter, it had to be turned on it's side in the air to clear a heating duct line. It was hell replacing the gearcase on her direct drive whirlpool, I really hurt myself in the process.

In this case I blame the customer and the delivery people. If it takes 6 people to get a machine in place, you need to realize you doing something foolish.

Let these stupid bastards go to the Laundromat.

You're right, it was a service contract job. Otherwise, I would have gave her a $1000 estimate to make her go way.

I was called out late Friday. The lady had bought a dishwasher new from the local dealer. Well long story short..she called me to finish the job. He said they needed a plumber. The dishwasher was half pulled out, full of water,kick panel was not off but bent up and twisted(did not take out screws, just busted them), elec conection box was open and wire nuts off HOT!!! Not to mention he bent the cooper line. When I showed up the lady said the guy said he took a class?? Never heard of a dishwasher install class, new to me?

I hope you walked out on that customer and told them the get the cabinet out of the way from the front of the washer.

The one in front of the washer does not move.  I told them to take apart the one on the left around the laundry sink and remove the laundry sink and maybe I could fix it.  Some people are clueless.
