      All Appliantology tech members are invited to join in this workshop on all things Appliantological. 
      We have a special session planned for this one. Instead of the usual Show 'n Tell on a technical topic, we're going to post tech sheets in the comments to this Calendar Event (scroll down to see what's posted so far) and ask specific questions that can only be answered by reading the tech sheet. If you at least try to answer the questions beforehand, you'll get a lot more out of it. The tech sheet and the questions are posted in the comments section below.
      Your mission, if you should choose to accept it, is to check out the questions for each one and try to answer them ahead of time. Then come to the Dojo to see how well you did!

when that particular compressor is funtioning normally, its gets hot as you know where anyway. Over time that overload can get weak,it may have continuity but it may not stand up to the torment of sitting on top of that compressor.Does it smell or have a burned spot on the base of it.

If it turns out replacing the overload does not do it then you could try this torque multiplier it is called a hard start, It has a booster in it to help the compressor kick over.

Yep....when you checked the compressor terminals for ground did you have the meter set on 1K and go from each terminal to a freon line or the evaperator coil after the wires were removed from the compressor?  if the needle even twitches it is grounded....also with your meter on X1 see what readings you get between the three terminals, the value you get from two will equal the third, cannot remember which two equal the third right now....if all three peg out the meter on x1 you have problems, the windings would be fused internally, should read like 2-3, or 3-4 or 5-7 ohms, somewhere in that range.

First, I checked each contact on compressor to the copper...  I got  zero zero and zero.  Not even a little twitch!  Then I checked each contact to the others..  I got 3.8, 2.9 and 1.1.   So I assume that there isn't a short in the winds of the compressor.  That means either C-3 or a computer board is the culprit.  Any way I can check         C-3???  Any other ideas?

I imagine it could be an overload going bad, I have not seen this in all of the 29 years of reparing window units, but anything is possible these days...
