Compressor troubles

Recommended Posts

I came home today to find a house like an oven.  Anyone who lives in the south can tell you 100+ degree heat and no A/C sucks.  I opened the outside unit because the fan was running but no cool air.  Low and behold on the compressor the whatchamadinky (I think this is the technical term:D) that the wires connect too has a  broken post as seen in the pictures below.

My questions:  What is the layman's term for whatchamadinky so that I won't confuse the poor sap who has to deal with me for parts?

Is the whatchamadinky replaceable or will I need to get a whole new compressor.

Copeland compliant Scroll compressor out of RUUD Achiever 10

Compressor Model # ZR3613-PFV-230

Compressor Serial # 94C86127L

Thanks for the help.

Looks like the last resort terminal kit was already in use when the one Fusite terminal finally cooked off, probably was not adequately cleaned when the kit was put on. Time for a new compressor at the very least.

I'll bet it is out of warranty by now. Can you find some backstory on the unit?

I'm not mistaken it is around 13 years old so I'm sure the warranty is out on it.  It was my grandmothers house...  Now mine.  I was hoping for a simple get me by solution until I could replace the whole unit inside and out.  It definitely needs it.

Dangit

I HATE IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS!

If you could remove that plug and re-soldier the 3 windings to a new plug. then seal the new plug to the housing. Then that compressor could work again.

What yall think?
