Honorable Master...

Replaced belts after wife terrfied by smoke/screeching sound. Offloaded clothes, unit still full of water.

The pulley attached to agitator does not spin freely (is it supposed to?). The belt catches, but is not able to overcome whatever is holding back the pulley.

This unit was purchased in late 70's, early 80's and I don't know if current machines are better made or worse made then this unit.

Thanks

Feel around all around the top of the tub, between the inner basket and outer tub, and pull out the towel or sock that's stuck between there.

Also make sure the pump pulley turns freely.
