All Appliantology tech members are invited to join in this workshop on all things Appliantological: bidness, customers, tools, troubleshooting, flavorite brewski, whatever. Webcams and microphones are open and live!
This workshop is also a great time for any students at Master Samurai Tech to bring any and all questions about the coursework. We're happy to walk through any concepts you're having trouble with. Think of it like office hours with your teachers.
If you have a specific appliance problem you'd like us to talk about, post it here! We need a problem statement and a PDF of the tech sheet or schematic so we can all see it on screen share. If you have a PDF that isn't already in the File library here at Appliantology, send it to us by attaching it to the contact form.
Also, follow this Calendar Event so you'll get notified of new posts here. Look for the "Follow" button either at the top of the topic on desktop or below the topic on mobile.

I'm an appliance guy who's getting estimates on new hvac.I live in a condo 2nd flr.(box on a box in a box)So I'm stuck with 80% ef. heater and 13 or 14 seer ac.I've had 3 estimates and talked to a buddy in the biz that can't do my job.(lives too far). The least expensive of the estimates is using Goodman products.I've heard the good and bad and the ugly.About the past and present. They now give the best warranty and looks like there trying to make up for poor quality in the past(I love the underdog who try's to have a better future).Theres a ton of goodman dealers in my area so I figure getting warranty work won't be hard if I have to,and I think I can buy an extended warranty staight from Goodman.

Heres what I would like if some Goodman dealers/installers could let me Know what they think.Since you guy's know best.I promise not to report you to Goodman if you have anything bad to say.LOL

I'm not looking for horror stories from customers.Being in the service business I know how customers can exagerate and feel their world is ending if they can't get what they want when they want it.No disrespect but profesionals take what customers say with a grain of salt most times.

The models I'm looking at are GSC13-13SEER ac and 80%AFUE GMH8/GDH8 heater

Thanx fer yer help...................Dan the Appliance Man

From someone who services any and all brands(some I have never heard of before), for my $0.02 I don't have anything to discourage you from going with the Goodman line. As we are all aware the furnaces were less than durable before they bought the Amana line. Now they are using the Amana style tubular (tough as nails) heat exchanger. They carry a great warranty and like you said parts are readily available.

HVAC equipment has had it's share of Neptune style problems, anyone that remembers the Amana HTM can tell you that. I'm sure if we dig into it we can find many stories covering all of the brands

As with the appliance industry, hvac comes down to service. It isn't necessarily about the product name (although we all have our favorites). If you get a quality installation from a company that stands behind their work, it is worth more than any nametag. I don't think you will find anyone to argue with that. We can all tell you war stories about a particular brand but the one thing in common with most of them is improper installation & setup.

Yeah that was my general feeling too.I mean even the Appliance guy's standby whirlpool has it's share of defects we don't like. And it seems that everthing breaks before it's 5 years old.So a lot of times it doesn't pay to pay top dollar.Thanx fer yer input.
