All Appliantology tech members are invited to join in this workshop on all things Appliantological.
We have a special session planned for this one. Instead of the usual Show 'n Tell on a technical topic, we're going to post tech sheets in the comments to this Calendar Event (scroll down to see what's posted so far) and ask specific questions that can only be answered by reading the tech sheet. If you at least try to answer the questions beforehand, you'll get a lot more out of it. The tech sheet and the questions are posted in the comments section below.
Your mission, if you should choose to accept it, is to check out the questions for each one and try to answer them ahead of time. Then come to the Dojo to see how well you did!
Who: This workshop is only available to tech members at Appliantology.
When: Saturday, April 27 @10:00 AM Eastern Time.
      Where: Online via Zoom
      How:
Click here to go to the forum topic with the registration link. If you're interested, register now. Arrive a couple minutes early to make sure your connection is working. Hey,

I am at present time, checking out an ac system which i believe to be a,Multi circuit feed evaporator type. With all the information that I have it requires a metering device. It does have a distributor and a header as required but no metering device. From the info that I have it should have some form of txv, which would be connected right before the distributor and there is none. What I'm thinking is that they could be using the distributor as a multiple cap tube system?I didn't remember all the serial or model number but will get back with that info later.I'm hoping that someone will have some info on this type of system. It's a goodman gaspack residential system.:D

These like many residential units use an orfice which is located in the distributor body that then feeds several sections of the evaporator at the same time. You will notice the liquid line has a mechanical connection at this point. Goodman calls it a "Flowrater" and refers to it as "piston size" in the specification sheet. Here is a service manual for a model starting GPG1336.

What do you have for a TD across the coil, your pressures, and super/sub.  My friend ran into a split unit without an expansion device and had been that way for 10 years.  No one could figure it out or choose not to until he decided to pump it down and look for himself.  Sure enough, no expansion valve.  How the compressor survived is beyond belief.  He chose to go back with a TXV and the shop owner couldnt say enough about how well it worked.

Unfortunately doing a good job turned into a slight nightmare.   The shop owner decided to sue the landlord for failure to provide adequate service given the defect and the amount of money that the tennant laid out over the years to fix it.  Hope it works out for you.  Let us know what you have.

Hey,

I'm presently taking a refresher course at the local college. This  unit was purchased for us as a training aid.It is new, the return and supply have not yet been connected,so the td's and splits aren't that reliable. The unit is sitting outside and the abient is around 65 at class time. I figued I'd let you know what was going on.As always I appreciate the replies and thank you.:)
