Lennox G14

Recommended Posts

My dad made sure that I knew the rudamentary workings of a furnace, how to light it, trouble shooting, etc. but now have a Lennox G14 that can hear cycling to start to pulse but does not pulse. This thing is a new animal to me - an older person used to pilot lights, etc. As far as I can tell the unit was installed in 1993, but know nothing of the service history.  As an older female recently moved a 1000 miles from comfort zone, know am ripe for the picking for a dishonest repair company. (been there, done that). I went through the directions in the manual several times to get the unit to restart with no success;

1)Does anyone know an honest repair company in the Joplin-Springfield MO area? 2) How often should the spark plug, flapper, etc be changed on these units? 3) What should I expect a good repair person to look at on this unit? 4) Is there anything I should be doing myself other than cleaning the filter every month? Keeping in mind am not a helpless female and do many of my own repairs.

I don't consider myself a Lennox Pulse expert by any stretch of the imagination but I will share what I do know.

Lennox recommends a new flapper kit annually but I've worked on several that  haven't had them for over 10 years. (The kit isn't that expensive so replacing them every few years is best)

The spark plug only needs to be replaced when it fails-not common.

Most common failure I've seen is the ignition control.

Make sure the condensate drip leg/trap is cleaned & flushed out annually.

Check air intake & exhaust making sure exhaust is not drawn in the intake. As with any 90% the critters like to climb inside.

Lennox had a problem with the brazing on the secondary heat exchanger on some units, they require a visual inspection and pressure test. They did a good job of making sure those that were registered were tested.

As for finding a contractor in your area I would recommend using one that services and sells the Lennox line, simply ask them if they are trained to service the Pulse.

Thank you all so much!  The information you have given is so very helpful. I will call the local lennox dealers listed in the phone book and find one that has worked on a pulse.  Now feel like I have some idea of what to expect when the service call  takes place and have a lot more understanding of how the pulse is different from other furnaces.
