I can fix it myself

Water dripping from the inside roof of a kenmore fridge

5 posts in this topic

My girlfriend has a Kenmore fridge model 978.256205.On the roof of the fridge section, there is a small vent that is dripping a steady amout of  water into the fridge itself. She has to have a glass to catch the dripping, and has to change it twice a day. What is causing this dripping, and how do I stop it?Other then this annoying dripping, the fridge and freezer seem to operate normally.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

This model number does not come up, please check it and post the corrected numbers.  We need to see who made this for Sears since Kenmore is a private label and is made by many different manufacturers before we can adress this moisture problem.

I just fixed a similar problem with my Kenmore refrigerator.  The drain line is probably clogged with ice and water is running down the air vents into the food compartment.  To fix the problem, remove the freezer floor by removing two hex screws at the front of the freezer and pull the freezer floor out.  I had ice covering the entire area, so I had to remove it until I got to the drain hole at the back of the freezer.  It was located in a metal track that runs across the back of the freezer.  I could feel a chunk of ice in the drain hole, so I used a turkey baster and ran hot water down the hole.  I also unplugged the fridge for a few hours until the ice in the drain tube started dripping into the drain pan.  Did this last night and this morning the fridge is working fine.  No wate in the food section and everything is cold.  Hope this helps - your problem sounds identical to mine.  Good Luck!

I will not be able to look this up in the USA, will need to wait for some of the members in here located in Canada who has access to Canada data bases. However it sounds like the defrost drain system might be stopped up either in the freezer or in the top of the food section where the water drains onto and on down the drain tube to the pan under the frig.
