Siemens Dishwasher = Dag Nasty Evil

This time it was dropped its diaper.  Leaked all over the kitchen floor and flooded the basement below.  So I attempted to disassemble it to find the cause of the leak.  Well it has this plastic pan which doesn't want to come off and your site has no documentation on how the dishwasher comes apart. This is such a joy.  Any ideas on where one might find a manual or exploded views or anything that explains how to take this beast apart?

Also that folder sharing thing doesn't work for me.  It worked once but not any more. What do I have to do to get it working again?

regards,  Daniel

SL84A305UC/01 Siemens stainless steel dishwasher. found a owners care manual. but nothing for fixing it.

Update checked all the micro switches and found them to open and close a multi meter set on resistance. Took the front panel off and visually inspected the controller looking for bad solder jouints. Nothing found. Found the drain line to the sink a bit slow. Cleared it up and it now flows fine.

It goes through a wash cycle and gets stuck on the final drain. the paddlewheel pump for the drain seems to never get something to complete. Without a manual it is hard to say what the problem is. Checked all the water level switches and they are free and as said previously, check out on the multi meter. Its getting late and this will have to wait until after work tomorrow. Thanks for the fast response. Still wondering about the file sharing thing. but that can wait. A manual that explains how this monster works would be a real help. Again the model number is SL84A305UC/01.

regards, Daniel

Pretty sure these are Bosch-built dishwashers. Post a picture of the inside of the dishwasher or of the underneath behind the kickplates and I can confirm. If it is a Bosch-built unit, I can get you a service manual.

Water in the plastic pan means one of two things:

1. Someone used dishwashing liquid in the dishwasher (or just too much detergent) and this caused a flood.

2. The main seal for the wash motor left go and the basin leaked into the pan.

Here are the pictures that you requested.  I think that a Bosch Manual would be helpful so that I can get inside the mind of the dreaded Hun that designed this fiendish device.  I also found a parts breakdown in a pdf file which is what I am going to study until you send the Bosch Manual.

So this is what I asked back in Nov07 and what you said:

Then you replied:

Measure voltage at the valve, should have 120vac.  If that's good, then replace the valve.  Problem solved!  You can buy the valve here. If you need more instruction, start a new topic in the kitchen forum.Samurai

Your Precious Words: I have a Bosch Model SL84A305UC/01 Dishwasher which has been making noise at the start of a cycle. So I took off the lower front access plate and found that the water inlet valve solenoid was vibrating to beat the band. Did a search of your site and could not find a similar "Seen it before" so before I dive into this and spend a valuable Saturday PM do you have any ideas? Is it just the valve (I know I am dreaming) or do I have to look further. If so what should I be looking for. BTW after a while the valve stops vibrating and so that might indicate that it is a control board problem. Where power is not getting to it initially but later it is just fine. (I know I am unworthy to have ideas and insights like this, that is why I pay you) Please constructive comments only and if you have to point out the obvious, be gentle. I have two twenty something sons who constantly remind me of my inadequacies. No neither is an engineer willing to dive into fixing a dishwasher. (Now you are dreaming)

---------------------------------------

This is the status of the problem:

This evening I took videos to capture the noisy inlet valve.  It gets 120VAC and lets hot water into the the dishwasher just fine.  I double checked the drain line and it is very clear between the drain pump and the connection to the sink drain and I can see and hear it is draining fine.  The problem is that during the wash cycle after the 120VAC is stopped to water inlet valve, it makes this vibrating sound and twice I was able to make it stop by closing the inlet stop valve and then re opened it.  Question do these valves ever leak or fail to close after the 120VAC is stopped to it?

This thing did a number on my basement and if it was all for just a $30 part I am going to be very discouraged.  I  suspect this valve because I can't find anything else  that is malfunctioning. I can't find any leaks this evening.  The parts break down diagrams were key to solving how it works.  Please let me know you opinon about replacing the inlet valve.

Couldn't resist my urge to interfere. Yes it would be rather obvious that the inlet valve has turned evil. They can and will at some point of their sucky life.

Now it is possible to look up Bosch dishwashers on RCC, and see if they list valves similar to yours.

Dammit this new function on RCC is neat. It allows you to post a direct search link...

Maybe try a wider search with dishwasher valves in general, perhaps looking outside the Bosch/Gaggenau box gives more data to work on...

Yep, it's a Bosch-built unit. Here's the water inlet valve you need:

Daniel, are you set up on the Xdrive yet? If not, you need to be because I have loads of manuals stored there, including several for Bosch dishwashers.

Yeah, that new RCC search function rocks! Sublime Master Keino discovered one of its unsung features: searching by part type or part description.

As a follow up, the least you need to post a link to search results looks like this...

http://www.repairclinic.com/SmartSearch/SmartSearch.aspx?searchText=bosch%20dishwasher

...so you may omit the link text after the keywords used... also the R=154 inserted to the string works to some extent at least, dunno if the referral works through this, though... can't verify for myself, maybe should ask their webmaster to confirm.

  • 2 years later...

Well its Christmas time again and guess what yup the good old dish washer is pissing all over the basement again. The symptoms this time are that it runs but does not empty. So I checked it out and found that the intake for the discharge pump was clogged and the rest was clear. But the one really disturbing thing that my wife noticed was that at the end of the cycle it makes a really loud buzzing sound. That reminded me of the post above and I have ordered another inlet valve. My real concern now is: am I fixing a symptom or the cause? Or better said: is something causing the inlet valve to buzz at the end of the cycle or is that the sound of end of life for an inlet valve?

Depending on your recommendation my plan is to replace the inlet valve every two years or so. $30 is a small price to pay for a dry basement.

Also is there a Bosch Repair Manual I might get for the future?

regards, Faithful Fan Daniel. (What would I do without Sensei?)

SH Bosch _Dishwasher_Service_Manual.pdf

for diagnostics,

some manuals mention Power Scrub + Delicate/Econo

some manuals mention Regular Wash + Delicate/Econo

Well, guess I'll post here again, after a long pause as well. New forum and all.

Unlikely that it is the inlet valve that hums at the end of cycle... more like the (drain) pump.

From your description as well as the parts list, it appears that it has separate pumps for circulation and drain.

You said you took some foreign particles out of it... and it still won't empty the basin, but leaks on the floor, and the rest of the tubing is clear?

My hunch (but only a hunch) is bad, bad drain pump.

Well it the old Siemens labeled Bosch Dishwasher which until today was running like a champ. I come down this morning and it is buzzing away and there was water in the bottom. Clear the cycle and it drains out. Restart and the buzzing is back.

Thanks to your site keeping my prior posts, I reread all your superb wisdom and guidance and purchased another inlet valve. This time the inlet valve lasted 4 years and failed closed which is much better than open; which floods out my kitchen and basement below. This site is so worth it just from a stress reduction stand point. The ability to see past problems with one's appliance is invaluable. I am so glad that I ponied up for the Samanera Title.
