Blower moter fire!

I have installed a number of blower motors, but never on a Rheem.

I removed the old motor and took it to the appliance guy.

There are a red, white, and black wire coming from the furnace. The old moter had white going to white, and black going to red and black from the furnace all three sharing a wire nut, and a red wired capped.

The new motor had two capacitor wires, black, red, blue, and white. The guy at the shop told me white to white, red to red, and black from the furnace to blue on the motor,

I did exactly that and it caught on fire inside the motor.

I planned to run black from the motor to red and black from the furnace and white to white just as I uninstalled it which would leave red and blue capped on the motor.

Any help? It looks like they are gonna replace the motor.

WHITE = COMMON ....... BLACK=HIGH , COOL.......BLUE=MED(COOL FOR A SMALL HOUSE)...... RED=LOW , HEAT   NEVER PUT TWO BLOWER MOTOR WIRES TOGETHER EVER  THE WAY YOU HAD IT BEFORE WAS FINE , YOU JUST HAD THE HEAT AND THE COOL RUNNING THE SAME BLACK OR HIGH SPEED MOTOR WINDING    ....... SO TO RECAP YOU WANT TO CAP OFF THE  BLUE AND THE RED WIRE FROM THE MOTOR WITH A WIRE NUT EACH AND LEAVE THEM ALONE

Thanks... I got a new motor for free and it worked this time. Black to blue and white to white. I capped off red from the furnace and motor.

Now I gotta clean the A-Coil.
