I'm helping my sister with her old (>20 years ) Kelvinator side by side Model # FM1210SN. The refrig. side has started getting too cold - the tea is freezing etc. The cold control and freezer control settings are the same as they always have been. She also indicated the door gasket looks bad and there is a gap between door and cabinent (on the refrig side). Will the gasket problem cause this too-cold condition or would it more likely be the thermostat (cold control ?) How do I test the thermostat to see if it is stuck closed, etc.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you can see that the gasket is bad you gotta deal with that first. Make sure there is no ice or frost (caused by the bad gasket) or food blocking the airflow.
Turn the cold control down 1/2 notch and wait 24 hours. Leave the damper alone. Usually in the middle is the right setting for the damper.
If you have to turn the cold control down another 1/2 notch and wait another 24 hours. If you make it down to "1" or "A" and the tea is still freezing I'd say it's time for a cold control.
