I've only done one so far. I'm just tired of GE products all together.

Just curious, did you work for Maytag at the washer and dryer plant on the SAV, SDE, SDG model machines?

Good, I would be embarassed if I had been responsible in any way for building the god awful "Amanatag" top load washers. The washers were so horrible with the triple lip seal and bearing, the milk stools and the weak base problems that Maytag had to stop production of them even before Whirlpool bought them out.

Right there with ya, Scott (shudders violently)...

"The Maytag Legacy Washer...the Legacy it leaves is the smell of burning rubber, and water stains on your floor!"

 

I had a servicer tell me this unit could have been permanently fixed if Maytag would just authorize them to replace the original triple-lip seal with an Amana Commercial part; we couldn't authorize because the part number wasn't 'linked' to this model.

Any truth to that, or were they just shining me on??

Yes, actually Speed Queen kept their division of that washer and dryer so Maytag only bought the Amana division.

Raytheon sold Speed Queen to Alliance Laundry Systems, LLC. and kept the metal outer tub and kept the tub seal and bearing the way it was for years as well as leaving the milk stool and the base the way it was.

The problem is Maytag took the Amana washer and "cheapened it up" so they could make a better profit on it. Just like Maytag did away with the Dependable Care washer "LAT" and "LAV" model washers because it did not meet energy efficiency standards, and it was too expensive to build.

the whole problem with the sav washers is they didnt have an air dome around the seal, something that the speed queen washers do have. i dont think the speed queen seal would have helped this beast of a washer.
