I have almost completley disassembled my Maytag MDG8000AWW dryer (whether it goes back together is anybody's guess) but can't get the blower wheel off. I've removed both snap rings, and am now stuck. I've tried with pliers on both ends of what appears to be some sort of nut (I have no idea what part this is - it extends from the front of the blower wheel through the motor). Help please!

If you've got both rings off, the blower wheel should just pull off. Why are you trying to remove it?

Got it off - just had to pull harder than I initially thought was prudent. Actually the entire disassembly started when dryer had no heat, and I started about cleaning out lint from various places - now I have some parts that look brand new since I cleaned them off - at least I now know what the inside of this dryer looks like:D

Help - stuck at a new spot on reassembly - getting the belt around the appropriate wheels. The picture on this site for Maytag repair shows a different configuration than what is inside my dryer. I just can't seem to figure out how the belt goes around the pulley and the motor rod which connects to the blower wheel. The picture view is from the top.

Ah, Neptune-style dryer. This is deceptively easy. First off, ribbed side of belt against the drum-- this is opposite of the earlier Maytag Dependable Care Dryers. Set a bight (old sailor knot-tying terminology-- google it) over the motor pulley, then pull the idler pulley waaaaay over to the left and set it down on the far left hand side of the belt. This is all done blind but it's piece of pie.

Piece of pie for you - piece of *!$%# for me - plenty of play in belt until I wrap it around drum and then try a bight - even a very tiny bight does not seem to fit over motor pulley, let alone that and the idler pulley. Very frustrating to grasshopper oh exalted one.

What's the part number of the belt you're trying to install?

It is the belt that came with the dryer, so I'm not positive, but from the repair clinic parts lookup it looks like it is 791135.

I think you may have to try a different section of the groove on the drum... they are pretty picky about  just the right spot in the drum groove from what I have seen posted in the past.

Ok, if it's the belt that came with the dryer, then it's not an issue with a being the wrong belt. The belt does not go in the groove on the drum, you can see where it rides from the belt track on the drum.

I'm not sure what else I can tell you, this really is easy and I think you're psyching yourself out. Let's try it again:

1. Set drum in place in dryer.
2. Loop belt around dryer, rib side agains the drum. Everything else from this point on is done blind.
3. Reach in from the front of the drum and loop a bight around the motor pulley.
4. Pull the idler to the left and let is rest against the laft-most side of the belt.
5. That's it!

Thanks, appreciate the help. I think I have it on right - now if I get the rest put back together I will see if it all works! :?
