All Appliantology tech members are invited to join in this workshop on all things Appliantological.
We have a special session planned for this one. Instead of the usual Show 'n Tell on a technical topic, we're going to post tech sheets in the comments to this Calendar Event (scroll down to see what's posted so far) and ask specific questions that can only be answered by reading the tech sheet. If you at least try to answer the questions beforehand, you'll get a lot more out of it. The tech sheet and the questions are posted in the comments section below.
Your mission, if you should choose to accept it, is to check out the questions for each one and try to answer them ahead of time. Then come to the Dojo to see how well you did!
Who: This workshop is only available to tech members at Appliantology.
When: Saturday, April 27 @10:00 AM Eastern Time.
      Where: Online via Zoom
      How:
Click here to go to the forum topic with the registration link. If you're interested, register now. Arrive a couple minutes early to make sure your connection is working. Miele’s Dishwasher Undergoes 2 Year Endurance Test

Jun 10, 2009

For almost two years, a Miele dishwasher has been running non-stop in a long-term endurance test at Miele’s Bielefeld factory in Germany. According to Miele, the dishwasher has outlasted the self-imposed criteria that each appliance be tested to withstand everyday usage for 20 years, which equates to 12,500 hours of operation or 7,500 program cycles.

George Tjoumakaris, Communications Specialist at Miele in Princeton, NJ, U.S., said that the public endurance test on the dishwasher has been streamed live online, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

The involves the use of detergent, rinse aid, and salt. The test routine is fully automatic, allowing the dishwasher to run unattended overnight, on weekends and during holidays. The model being tested uses 3.4 gallons of water per cycle.

Many years ago an electric motor repair dude told me running an electric motor is easier on it than starting. It is the starting that wears them out.. Maybe he wasn't pulling my leg.

The Circulation pumps are of the permanent split capacitor vintage, which do not produce alot of heat when starting(or running for that matter), and as a result do not have alot of starting tourque, so a dry pump seal (such as in a unit seldom used or being stored a long time) is more than adequate to cause the motor not to start. This can usually be cured by "freeing" the stuck seal - use of rinse aid seems to aid in keeping the seal free.

You would think that some food sediment would be in order to "test" the endurance of the machine as well. Every sump I have changed a chopper in has had the screens plugged. Then again, i have not heard of this brand before, so maybe i'm missing something.

I should have made myself more clear, sorry.

I was looking for a link to the live online, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year stream.
