Clothes Dryer plug

I have a clothes dryer with a 3-way plug but the recepticle in my house is for a 4-way plug. Can I replace the 4-way plug with a 3-way plug and if so how should the wiring be conected to the 3-way plug?

Any help would be appreciated.

Other way around: your house is wired according to the current code-- your dryer is what needs to be re-wired. This is a good thing, too, because it's much easier to upgrade the dryer pigtail (cord) than it is to upgrade the household wiring. See this article for more detailed how-to:
