Hello,

I have a Whirlpool washer model LST7233AQ0. We bought it about 10 years ago.

The washer will fill and run (agitate) but will not switch into the rinse or spin cycle(s).

The wash action will continue until the timer reaches the "off" position at which time the washer will shut off. The timer indicator progresses through the whole process.

If I turn the control knob to the appropriate point the washer will rinse and/or spin. But I must do it - the washer will not switch into these cycyles automatically.

I have read many of the articles on this site and found them very helpful. I have already replaced the drive coupling even though the old one looked aged but not defective. I had the silly thing apart anyway, so I went ahead with the replacement

Any help on this?

so are you saying that it agitates even when it should be spinning. if so sounds like a sticking timer contact.

Yes, the thing agitates the whole way through.

 

Is there nothing else to do but replace the timer? Is that a difficult thing?

The part seems pretty expensive. :(

Piece of pie, comrade!  A single mug on the SUDS-o-meter. 

Can't think of anything else it would be.  And, if you buy timer here, you can return it for a refund if that doesn't fix it.

Compared to what?  If you do the repair yourself, you save $149 in labor! :)

Well heck, I did the drive coupling and that was at least one more mug of difficulty.

Now, if I can ask a further question. How do you get the darn thing off?

Turn the timer knob (not the dial) anti-clockwise, it will come off. Then pull the dial towards you, it is just a push fit on to the shaft of the timer. Once its off you'll see two hex head (usually 5/16") screws, these hold the timer to the console. Remove these and the timer wil come off. See the nice picture below.

The timer arrived yesterday. I installed it this morning and so far so good.
