Ruud Gas Powervent 2 Water Heater

I noticed that the gas valve indicator light was blinking four times which according to the troubleshooting manual means that the pressure switch is open. I removed the fan assembly from atop the heater and noticed that there was quite a bit of water in the fan housing. I poured the water out of the fan housing and estimated it to be at least a cup of water that had collected in there. I put everything back together and sure enough the gas burner and all fired back up with no problems. Five days later, the same issue happening again with more water collecting in the fan housing. Why is so much condensation collecting in the fan housing?

from Power Vent 2 Water Heaters Use & Care Manual

Draining the Condensate

In certain conditions, installations in unconditioned space or

having long horizontal or vertical runs may accumulate condensate.

In order to prevent condensate from draining back into the blower,

we recommend a condensate tee and drain to be installed in a

horizontal vent section as close as practical to the blower vent connection.
