Kenmore Side by Side Freezer cold but refrigerator is not

5 posts in this topic

Hello experts,

I have a Kenmore 253.53612300 from Sears.  The freezer is working fine and the refrigerator is not cooling.  Before you tell me to do a search on the forum, I have already.   But none seems to address the problem.

I have checked the air distribution and air return vents.  They are not blocked with ice.

I took the freezer panels off to check for ice, the defrost seems to be working fine since there were minimal ice.  There was a little bit of ice near the air return vents on the bottom so I used a blow dryer to clean that out.

The fan near the back on the inside of the freezer is working fine.

I turned off the refrigerator side and turned it back on with the air damper housing off to double check the air damper.  It seems to work fine with opening and closing the air damper that distributes cold air from the freezer.

This is when I plugged the unit back in to see if it would work.  Nothing...

So I thought maybe it's the fan not pushing enough air.  So I did a ghetto experiment and stuck toothpicks to keep the air damper open.  And it did...the fridge is cooling, but it's way too cold now. :D  At least my milk is not going bad. =)

Is it the thermostat?  If so I can't seem to find it on this website.

Any ideas on what the problem is?  HELP!

Thanks! Don't really have the smarts to test the electrical piece by piece. I'm more of a follow the steps type of guy. How would I narrow down to which piece I need? Or do you suggest the freezer control and the fridge control?

The Fridge Damper Control is complete with everything, it includes the $138 Freezer control/t-stat, Fridge control/t-stat, motorized damper, and ADC-Adaptive Defrost Control board.

This is a replacement of all the main controls of the unit, only thing that would be left in regards to electrical would be lights, wiring harnesses, door switches, fans, compressor and related compressor start components.
