Whirlpool washer fills and then stops

Our Whirlpool washer (model # LSR6244AW0) is having an issue.

When you start a cycle it fills with water, then stops. Period.

You can smell a faint burning smell after it fills up.

The water does not drain, we had to do it manually.

Nothing works.

Please Advise.

Possible problems would be something in the water pump, jamming the motor, bad motor or locked transmission....need to remove the case and see if something is in the pump, if not remove the motor and see if you can turn the transmission both ways.
