If you see the aspect ratio on your avatar messed up making it look squished, you can fix it by simply re-uploading your avatar.  

Turns out, too, that if your avatar is squished, it won't show up on your profile page, either.  Re-uploading will fix that, too.

mine is squshed (skinny) and I was going to re-up, but then I logged on with another computer,
and it looks OK

skinny Avatar computer display resolution setting .. 1280x1025
OK Avatar computer display resolution setting .. 1024x768

old forum .. didn't matter.. looked OK

The aspect ration of your avatar is messed up in the forum software, probably from the conversion.  Because of that, it won't make smaller version of your avatar for your login in at the top RH of the screen and your icon for chat.  To fix, just re-upload the avatar.
