If you look beside any member's name anywhere it appears, you'll see a little, itty-bitty green square with an arrow in it. If you click it, a little window will pop up with basic info on that member. In addition to usergroup, online status, and current activity, it'll also show that member's most recent status update. You can make status updates on your profile page and people can see them in your popup window.
