This is about my GE Triton dishwasher model GSD6860J01SS

I find that my dishes don't get clean unless I pre-wash (or really wash) them before putting them in--especially anything on the top rack. But now I just think it doesn't clean at all. I used eco-cleaner for a while but that seemed worse, so I switched to Cascade power tabs. But sometimes even though the door to the detergent holder opened--the tab was still stuck in the holder after the cycle ran. So I switched to powder detergent. I fill both cups. I notice now that the detergent is stuck in the cups after running the cycle even though I was careful to only put the detergent in the cups when they were fully dry. On a happier side, at least the cup holder lid is opening.

So now, I pour some detergent into the bottom of the dishwasher to see if that will work. Then I heard somewhere on this forum that perhaps my spray arms aren't rotating. So I put them in the 12:00 position after running the unit and then check after a few seconds and maybe they aren't moving. (They are almost in the same spot). I do know that water is coming out of all three sprayers.

This dishwasher is from 2003. Wondering if I shld just junk it for a new one--and if so, what might be a good replacement--or if this can be fixed. Don't think I want to keep it just as a fancy drying rack....lol

Check the water fill level in the basin after the water stops filling and motor starts running. Should just come up to the heating element.

If that's good, then it's time to go underneath and make sure you're getting voltage to the circ. pump (item 310)... and that it's actually running.

per your suggestion the water doesn't touch the base or even seem to get close to the heating unit--which is the black element that runs around the base of the dishwasher (like in an electric oven) right? The heating element is also greyish in color which suggests to me that it isn't a happy camper.

Since it isn't getting there--any suggestions? I'll surf the FAQ section too. Thanks!

Sounds like the water inlet valve is gunked up with gookus... that's a technical term, please do not use it at home as I cannot be responsible for your safety.

I have purchased the part. But while I am waiting for it to arrive...can I just pour some hot water into the basin of the dishwasher prior to running a cycle to get my dishes clean? And would I need to do this again before the rinse cycle to get the detergent off? I know, I know, it means my dishwasher is no longer "automatic" but it sure will beat washing all those dishes until I can repair it. thanks.

Sure, if you don't mind babysitting the dishwasher. You won't harm the machine doing this.

Just wanted to say that another successful fix thanks to this forum. Turned out the wires to the inlet part were plug and play so it was easier than I thought it was going to be and I also got the part from you guys easily. No more pre-filling the basin before washing....
