Series 70 dryer thermostat

3 posts in this topic

Dryer heat stopped working. unit would still tumble. replaced heat coil )which i thought was the problem), but still no heat. went and bought an ohm meter, old heater coil was fine (so i did not replace it), checked around and found that it was the thermal cut-off fuse. Bought the whole kit and replaced the high limit thermostat along with the therman cut-off fuse. Turned in the unit and it got hot, very hot immediately. Smelled a lot. Touched the back of the coil unit and nearly burned my hand! How hot is this supposed to get? Does this sound like anythings wrong?

Now after running the dryer for about 5 minutes, there was a clicking sound coming out of the back. When I cut the breaker off it stopped. Havent gone back to find out the orgin of that. I did have one question about the high limit thermostat. I have three wires from my dryer, two red and one orange. The new high limit has terminals for the two red and came with a connector wire from the thermostat to the element. What do i do with the extra orange wire? High limit old part #3399693 - - replacement part # 3390291. Thanks for your help

The high limit kit should have an instuction sheet with it telling you

how to change the wiring connections to hook up.

However, I always use the HI LIMIT t'stat part# 3977767.

I don't know why they don't just have the original in the kit.
