Other posts have described glasses and dishes being coated with dirt that looks like grains of sand. My dishwasher is doing the same thing, but I also noticed that the spray arms get clogged - particularly the outer holes in the middle arm which stops it from rotating as well as spraying. I clean them out but they are clogged again after one wash cycle. It seems like food particles are getting through the filter system somehow. The outer spray holes of the top and bottom arms also get clogged (to a lesser degree). What should I check or inspect?

Could someone describe how to remove the stainless steel "strainer" at the bottom of the dishwasher? Thanks!

The lower spray wash arm can be removed by gently lifting and rotating it counterclockwise.

The nut hub can be removed by rotating it counterclockwise.

Caution: Be careful not to break the clip on the hub when removing the main conduit from hub.

From there, the fine filter can be removed.

I've tried that, but the screen is still being held down. There is an oval plastic piece behind the spray arm that goes down through the screen, that is partially filled with water. That seems to be what is holding the screen in place. I removed the cover/strainer that covers this piece but don't know how to free it or the screen.

Could someone please provide a diagram so I can see how the screen/filter is held down? Thanks!!!

Thank you for the diagram! It seems that the screen/bottom (#502) is being held in place by whatever is mounted in the square/oval opening. I removed the plastic strainer covering it but the frame that remains in place is doesn't want to budge (maybe #456?).

My dishwasher looks like the drawing in post http://appliantology...r-pdw7880g00ss/ , and it seems that the sump filter is keeping the main filter from coming out. How can I remove and clean the sump filter?

I can remove the fine filter assembly, but the coarse filter won't lift up. How do I remove the sump filter that's located under the part labelled "cover inlet"?

Have you cleared the sump by removing the cover inlet yet?

I took the cover off the sump filter and stuck my fingers down into it. It is about half full of water. Can I remove the sump filter to clear it???

Have you removed the hub nut? Need to remove that to remove the fine filter.

Post a photo of where you're at in your disassembly.

This is as far as I have been able to disassemble it. I have cleared the sump but that's all- please help me with the next steps to disassemble and inspect. Thank you!

It came thru. It's super big in dimension but highly pixelated. Not sure what's going on with you're not able to view it-- another bugzilla I have to track down. I've added it to the long list of others.

As far as removing the steel mesh, which is the coarse filter, I don't think there's a way to remove that; I think it's part of the factory-assembled basin.

The front of the coarse filter lifts up a little bit but it is held down by the sump filter assy. What else can I check to keep crud from clogging the spray arms?

That flapper valve, item 328 in the diagram Master Reg posted for you, is prone to hydrological processes called gookification and distortification. Go ahead and replace it:
