I have a ge side by side model # gss23wsta ss and the ice maker works fine but the chute will completly freeze up and become a solid block of ice. it also causes the door to get frozen stuck. i can tell that the flapper door is not sitting closed tightly and if i put my hand up the the dispenser I can push it open .
any suggestions on what can be done to fit the problem
Thanks wayne

Okay, your box was built before the affected units.
If that flapper door isn't closing all the way, it'll let warm up there and melt ice. There's a solenoid in the dispenser that operates the flapper that causes this problem. Come git you one... http://www.repaircli...ber=GSS23WSTASS

Click it to git it. One year warranty on that part.

When I removed the cover plate to access the solenoid I realised that the entire unit was completely rusted and alot of the screws were also rusted. I did replace the solenoid and the flapper open for a few seconds and closes. I did this repair in June and didnt turn the ice maker back on but I did open the water line . What I have noticed now is that I was getting the rust stains on the outside of the dispenser on the left side so I decided to open up the panel and I saw a lot condensation inside there. This is a vacation house so I am not there all the time. I have noticed when I come back there is some water in the tray. The solenoid is starting to rust again . I think there is a leak in the water dispenser that causes the drip and the cold water condensates inside .
Any suggestions? I have turn the water off so not to cause any further rust.
Thanks
