Kenmore 70 Series Dryer - horrible noise
Posted 30 October 2005 - 08:39 AM
I thought too soon.
When I returned home, I loaded up the first basket of wet clothes and turned on the dryer. It was turning, it was heating up, but it was making a horrible scraping sound that it had never made before. And it sounded like it was coming from the motor which circulates the air to catch the lint, which turns the belt which rotates the drum, that (usually) dries the clothes in the dryer that Kenmore built.
So, since the washer was already pulled out from last night, I rotated the dryer, took of the back panel, found the shaft where the lint screen goes into, and unscrewed it in order to pull it out and get to the motor.
When I took the shaft off, I found a great deal of lint and other foreign objects in the motor that was probably causing the noise.
I replaced the shaft, and plugged the dryer back in, but I still got the same scraping sound. I took the shaft back off, tried it again, still got the same scraping sound. I guess whatever is causing the sound is on the other side of the motor (the side turns the belt), but I can't get to it because of the inner chasis of the dryer.
Any tips on dismanteling?
Thanks for your help!

The page you sent me to, though worked great. I've managed to disassemble, vacuum out, and clean the inside. I've reassembled it and most of the noise is gone. I'm still getting a little squeaking from the wheels, so I'm going to take it apart again and WD-40 the rollers.
