My ice maker has started leaking water into the ice collection tub. That freezes up in the bottom into one big-ass, but mostly unusable ice cube.

I am trying to remove the ice maker from the freezer to inspect it. I got the screws loose, and the unit came forward, but I am having difficulty detaching the cable connector. Does it just pull out, or are there ears and tabs that need to be manipulated?

I also read on a different forum a similar problem with a different model of GE refrigerator. The user there had a solution that involved "turning the fill valve 2 turns." Is that fill valve available on my model? I don't see it referenced anywhere in the service manual. Where on the unit would I find it?

Related, I just got a GE GSF25IGZ which has an ice maker. There is no water supply nearby, so it is turned off. The ice maker looks the same as in my GSS20IEMA. Does anybody want to guess as to whether they are interchangeable and plug-compatible ?

Thanks,
JimR

If it's leaking from behind the control head like this:

then you need to replace the ice maker.
