Hello, I have a Danby Designer DPAC120068 portable 3 season air conditioner/dehumidifier. I have been having trouble with the fan (at least I assume it's the fan). The fan has 3 settings - low, medium and high. When the fan is set to low or medium it is fairly quiet and sounds like a normal blowing fan. When it is on hgh, however, the AC makes a very loud clicking sound. The AC has an oscillating vent feature that oscillates from left to right. When the vent oscillates to the very right, the clicking sound is less noisy but still present. When it osicillates to the left, the sound is so loud that you can barely hear anything else in the room. I have to keep the T.V. at 3/4 volume to hear properly. You can shut off the oscillating feature but the noise is still way too loud to put up with.

Another thing I have noticed is that when the filter screen in the back of the AC gets even slightly dusty, the sound gets even louder. So I have to blow the dust out of the filter almost daily. I don't like keeping the fan on medium even though it is quieter because the AC just doesn't cool the room well enough on any setting but high. It didn't make this sound for the first year I had it so I am wondering what could be going on. It almost sounds as if the fan is hitting something but that makes no sense because I assume if that was the case, it would make the noise at any speed. I've repaired dryers and stoves before and am a PC technician by trade, but I am not sure what I expect to fnd if I start taking this thing apart.

Any insite would be greatly appreciated.

I did a little bit of research a while back and I figured this service manual was a close fit to a danby unit, very similar. What do you think?

Thanks. That might help if I decide to go ahead and open it up. Just wish I had an idea of what might be causing the problem so I have something to go on. Hopefully that manual will help in identifying the various parts anyway.
