Hi all,
Have this patio heater that shuts itself off. Repair guy said it was either the valve or thermocoupler. Any experience with this unit? (apparently Vermont has gone bankrupt)
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Typically thermocouples either work or they don't . If you can light the pilot and it stays lit , then the thermocouple is not likely the problem. A weak thermocouple may be prone to being blown out if the main burner is not on. But it sounds like the the main burner may be on and the whole thing goes off? Is that correct?
I would guess maybe something is overheating or maybe a weak over temperature device.
I can't find any reference to the model number you put up.
If you think it is the themocouple , go to the hardware store and buy a $ 3 thermocouple and replace the one that is there. If the heater is more than 5 yrs old and has seen regular use , the thermocouple may be worn out .

These heaters are not used during summer. Some styles get clogged with dust in the pilot safety. Flush the pilot safety with rust buster and allow it to dry out. Then retry. That might be all it takes. Post some photos of the thang. I ain't never seen one and can't find out anything on line anymore nor do i give a crap about looking. Lol
