Just got in a Maytag Legacy Series Washer M# SAV515DAWW S# 10147229CP

During spin cycle it sounds like a machine gun.... any ideas before I tear this puppy down?

You'll need a Tranny, and likely a whole host of other parts .......... might be better off to toss it

You can replace tranny, brake,snubber, thrust bearing etc, but it's a matter of $$$$$ - the machine posted costs less new than the parts you will require

I'm not familiar with that model, but Is that some type of ratcheting "coupller" on the Motor Shaft ?
Does it work OK in Agitate ?

I say it has. Bad helix, not a transmission. I am curious as to what Nickfixit has to say about .

my opinon is to junk the washer just because the model number starts with SAV. had this problem before with the coupling not grabbing properly and was told by techline that it needed a new tranny. while you're in there your gonna want to change the tub seal also. Bare minimum, you will never get your money back outta this machine, with labor and parts cost the way they are. use it for parts, or trash it.

One of the components in the transmission has failed allowing excessive end play in transmission input shaft - open the hand with a new transmission, knowing the history of these machines, you won't get away without several other parts as well
