New here but hoping you all can be of some help!
I have a Maytag HA806 (as stated in title) that will not agitate.
Will properly spin out and fill/drain with water.
When it should be agitating, the pump runs but will not agitate.
I have taken the steps of rotating the main pulley (pulley attached to main shaft/tub) and it spins freely in the clockwise direction and will spin the tub going counterclockwise.
I am new to appliance repair but I am mechanically inclined as I am a mechanic.
On a side note, when spinning the machine jumps around a bit (machine is leveled properly by the legs) and sometimes when running an XL load it will leak a bit of water.

I've been told it is a 75. It does not have the newer style transmission, what else can I use to help identify the model?

If it will spin o.k. but it turns freely when it should be agitating, some thing is Kaput...The brake should be holding the spin basket during agitate.....remove the agitator and does the splined shaft go back and forth ??? At this age it could be a part in the gear box that has failed...It shows that sears sells it for $ 411......

Check and make sure the 1/4 in hex screw in the side of the agitator has not come loose - you can remove the agitator and see if the shaft is actually turning - if the agitator is loose, the shaft is just turning inside it

The older Maytag's don't have that 1/4" hex screw in the side of the agitator holding it on. They use a rubber o-ring style band around the agitator shaft that the agitator snaps down onto, it can be very difficult to remove the agitator on these machines without the use of a strap under the agitator looped over a 2x4 to pop the agitator off or the use of the "Agitamer Tool".

Methods to pop off agitator
2x4 method...the one we use
1 Fill the washer with hot water to cover the bottom half of the agitator
2Get a piece of strong rope about 58 inches long. Tie a knot the way you see it on the picture.
3 Place the rope around the agitator neck (sometimes looping under the bottom of agitator is best)
4 Get a 5 ft long piece of 2x4 and put a folded towel underneath it to protect the finish on the washer top.
5 Use the 2x4 as a lever. Putting pressure on the end of the piece of wood will lift the agitator out.
in the olden days we would loop 2 ropes under the agitator, connect the ropes to each end of a 2x4 or broomstick. Stand on the machine and lift up like we were doing a clean and jerk
uh, huh...guys didn't think the old man had it in him, did ya now?. See what moving 'frigerators can do. But alas, we'll let you young ones get all puffy while we'll use our brains and the principal of leverage as depicted above or.......

and even better, some guy's rendition of an agi remover thingy made using a unibar, some bent metal, a crescent wrench (or better yet, a drill driven socket)

However, removing a stuck agitator is a tad bit different from giving birth to a young 'un 'cause with an agitator, yer boiling water comes b'fer the screwin'. Next thing ya know, afore y'all can say "Samurai's Sweet Suds and Saki" the little bugger'll pop right on out.

I got a special method too, but no film or pictures of it and involved is an air chisel and garbage box to dispose of the broken agitator shards
