Can you repair or refurb a dryer gas valve? The flame is about 4 inches long as opposed to a fully functioning gas valve's flame is about 8 inches long. Its a shame I would have to throw this one out and to buy another. There are screws on the cover of the valve. Thx.

NO. You can not do any repairs on a gas valve other than replacing external coils.
Try cleaning dust out of the valve nozzle.
Check the gas pressure coming in.
If you do not already have one,put a drip leg on the gas line at the dryer to trap moisture.

Do you know the history of this dryer?

Sounds like there is a possibility that some one has converted it to LP gas and you are now running it on natural gas.

Check the number on the orifice, should be #42 or close to that for natural and if LP the orifice will be around a #54.

Naw, it was removed from a machine that was kept outdoors covered by a tarp when not in use......

... and that nice little rubber Cap that keeps moiture out, wasn't re-installed on then Gas Line Stub
The inside of the Gas Valve will rust ...
.
