loud whistle during spin- doesn't seem like bearing failure. any ideas? thanks

Best way for us to diagnose noises is to actually hear 'em. So, here's whatcha do:
Get your digital camera and make a short video (with sound) of the washer whilst it's a-whistlin'. Upload to Youtube and post the link here so we can grok admiringly on your cinematic debut.

Since I think these have a dicrete motor and belt I just pull the back off and yank the belt, the motor will still turn. Without the pressure of the belt it may be lessened (if it is the motor) but this usually pinpionts it. Could just be the belt rubbing on the pulleys also, move it a groove or two and soo it that alters it.
Bearings may scream or whine prior to structural failure also.

Thanks Drew- I suspected a motor issue but its a stack and couldnt move it by myself
