Without any warning signs-or sounds--- My husband went to do his weekly 3 loads- Honey!! Something's wrong with the washer!

The display is black- power is avail at outlet. No sound or visual response upon unplugging & plugging back in. Tried unplugged for 4 hours. Nothing.

Good news! I see you sell my model's control board (is that the correct tittle?) just have to wait till avail in March.

I'm planning a full scale inspection tomorrow. Any way to validate the problem?

I read a previous post regarding power surge-so will look closely for evidence. I went to a vocational electronics engineering program (in 1985-omg-I'm old!) so have tools & meters galore. That's why it's my job,and not the "man of the house" LOL.

Thanks for helping all us needy folks!
All our appliances are reaching "that age" so I'll be sending my "love offerings" for future insurance policy!!

Go strait to the main control, if you have 120 vac input and no display, the board is bad.

DANG!!!!
You guys are good!! ----I did omit the"2"
And fast responding too.

Thank you; very, very much.

Have you guys seen this often? Perhaps why the new board is on back order????

After reading so much about the Kenmore uh....problems/pissed customers, etc I wonder if our eight year old machine is going to have other failures.

As long as she's open I'm going to look as much as possible.-any common red flags I might see? Although I don't plan to take the drum out- should I? My DH thinks I'm a worst case scenario thinker. I say, take the time to do it right, ie fix it once,.the right way.

He wants to go buy a new one -if he gets his way (and I see something serious-like spider corrosion) what brands do you folks use yourselves? Do you think Consumer Reports info is useful?
Opinions on steam features on washers -I noticed some steam Kenmores said; "it cleans better" but only a couple of the steam models mentioned 99% Germ Kill. I've allergies, sounds useful. One machine bragged it sanitized the fastest--59 min vs 2+ hours "other steam washers" WHA?????
Any guidance? Is a steam washer worth it? Do they have more problems......or is the on-board steam generator actually able to keep the drum mildew free?

ok-gotta go open her up........
thanks again,
Rebecca

Appears fried-little scorched mark...
We had a momentary outage, barely noticeable, several days ago. Had to reset wireless router. Didn't think it was anything significant because none of the TV & DVD players needed clocks reset. DUH--- they are on a surge protectors....

Lesson learned ---I want a whole house surge protector!!! Just didn't realize that our modern day everything contains circuitry sensitive enough to suffer death. DO NOW!!!
Question now is....will any thing else have been damaged? You mentioned peripheral damages on someone else panel fried post.

Oh- also, couldn't tell where those two points are, J11-8.1&J118.3, to measure across. Or does the pic say enough?

Thank you

ps- two "tech sheets" were attached to the inside of the washer-one contained the schematic you sent! Sorry I didn't look first. Now I get why you use the term "grasshoppah"
Love the site-excellent, fun times.

Don't mind paying for a six pack or two.......well earned!

Out here on the Oregon coast, plenty of wind, downed trees...after a storm and a repaired appliance, I mention about getting a 'whole home surge protector' It will protect your 240 volt stuff also ( range, dryer ) ............(Just read your 10-20, a fellow Oreganite.......Beaverton, home of Redfield optics).......I would repair and keep it till a catastrophic failure....sounds like yours still has some life left in it....

1) sad.png
2) usually needed if you live "in the middle of nowhere"
OR you don't live in a "neighborhood" with many closely-spaced houses in a subdivision, etc
A surge protector may suppress surges,
but won't protect from lightning, nor from crossed power lines, broken Neutral / Ground wires, etc
3) may have damaged the Motor Controller, especially if the Washer was running at the time

Thank you 51, more trouble found (rats) door boot; 2 holes, Left shock; detached from drum..

Thank you, RegUS_PatOff, for looking up the parts.
She wasn't running.

So 187.26 for the three replacement items. I'm up for it, but Mr. “I wannah to do my laundry” is concerned of back order status: 2 weeks on the control board& no expected date on shocks,

Is swapping the rubber entry gasket & shocks difficult? The shocks seem/look really easy.

Or time to go shopping for an LG?

BTW the link for “understand & using tech sheets”(http://www.zenzoidma..._techsheets.pdf) is
broken; owner Zenzoidman still has site, folder still there, no files for topic.

funny-I'm not savy on the smiley animation.......what does it mean?

Thanks for all the help- looks like weekends are busy for you all.

two final questions-

Is there any buying advice to read on this site?
I need to talk husband out of Consumer Reports love of Kenmore, et. all.

Are there any front loader washing machines being manufactured without the aluminum spider/stainless drum ticking time bomb?

Hi bunnyrooroo! (I'll probably never get another chance to type bunnyrooroo). You should know that Kenmore doesn't make anything. They just stamp their name on it. You can determine the manufacturer of an appliance by the first 3 numbers of the model number. Also, in my opinion Consumer Reports is a waste of trees.

thank you-both,
I've been to Sears- Husband insisting on going with consumer reports. I read him the blurb you guys have somewhere here, about price levels & value. He's still saying "no more than $1,000" That leaves only the Kenmores. All but one of the numbers begin with 719=Frigidare. 716-which
is not on the 411 list, is the one he wants.
I suspect Kenmore is on to us...the full model number is no longer a permanent metallic sticker. It's a plain white address label size. A "new model on the floor" didn't even have one.
Only. a few in the showroom had front access panels.
I'm getting frazzled a bit- help me out please.
Samurai recommended brands are: LG,GE,Electrolux, best for front loaders, Dacor, Whirlpool / KitchenAid, Generally.
Is Maytag ok, since they are under the Whirlpool family? or NO?
CR-Recomended scores include these brands Whirlpool, Maytag, Samsung, Kenmore.

CR-Recomended scores include these brands Whirlpool, Maytag, Samsung, Kenmore. Thats why CR is deceiving. KENMORE doesn't make appliances.
