My less than 2 yr old Kenmore washer 110.21202010 just makes a clicking sound when I push the start/pause button. I've tried the following:

• Unplugged and plugged it back in
• Pushed start button twice (it's suppose to reset it)
• Completely replaced the lid switch ($54 wasted)
• Screamed and cursed at it
• Prayed

Nothing has worked thus far. I would like to completely take out that cursed lid lock, but will settle for just getting the machine up and running. (Found out I'm not a fan of doing laundry in the bathtub.) I don't think this machine has error codes; no digital displays and the lights don't seem to be flashing in any pattern. Maybe its something screwy in the electrical panel? How would you know? I do have some kind of voltage reader thingy but not sure how to use it.

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!!

yes, it does, but it's a complicated sequence to enter the Service Modes and obtain Error Codes,
and Manual Test Modes.

Here's some info from the 21 page Tech Sheets - W10280489.pdf

ACTIVATING THE SERVICE DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODES
1. Be sure the washer is in standby mode (plugged in with all indicators off).
2. Perform the following sequence of movement using the cycle selector knob.
NOTE: AFTER RESET, sequence “a” through “e” must be completed within 6 seconds.
RESET - Rotate cycle selector knob counterclockwise one or more clicks to clear sequence.
a. Rotate cycle selector knob clockwise one click and wait ½ second.
b. Rotate cycle selector knob clockwise one click and wait ½ second.
c. Rotate cycle selector knob clockwise one click and wait ½ second.
d. Rotate cycle selector knob counterclockwise one click and wait ½ second.
e. Rotate cycle selector knob clockwise one click.
 Successful activation of Diagnostic Test Modes will be indicated by all status LEDs
(except for Lid Locked) flashing ON and OFF in half-second intervals.
NOTE: LED names may vary between makes and models.
Legend: = ON = OFF
FAULT CODE DISPLAY MODE (Pgs 6–7)
To access fault/error codes, perform steps 1 and 2 of Activating the Service Diagnostic Test Modes.
Turn the cycle selector knob until the status LEDs correspond as follows:
 “Done” LED On
Press the START button to enter Fault Code Display Mode. The status LEDs flash on and off.
1. To view last 4 fault codes:
 Turn cycle selector knob clockwise to view fault codes in the order of most recent to oldest.
(Refer to Fault/Error Code charts on pages 6 & 7.)
NOTE: A fault/error code will be removed from memory if it does not reoccur after 10 consecutive wash cycles.

Thanks again for how helpful you've been. With your help my hubby diagnosed the problem...it's the control panel, the circuilt that controls the lid lock is shorted out. It even is black where it shorted out. Grrr. I hate that cursed lid lock any way and we've now poured around $100 into a washer I don't even like. Now if we want to fix it it'll cost another $117.
Samurai, is there ANY way we can bypass the lid lock on this machine? I hate it, hate it, hate it. It's a totally unnecessary part and now I can't run my washer because the circuit for it is fried. Any advice would be appreciated.

1) if the part had been purchased from RepairClinic, it could be returned for a refund
2) Controller needs to see the Lid "lock & un-lock" before and after every Wash cycle.
