Remove 4 phillips screws and pull out dispenser plastic assy
Standing in front of the washer---look at the front of the TOP COVER
There are (2) 5/16" screws that secure the top cover---through "L" shaped iron brackets. Remove both screws and the brackets.
Lift top cover

Yes!! I had already removed the detergent dispenser to get at the emergency door release cord. Just now, found the two bolts and got them off (got to use the mini-ratchet set, fun) and the lid is up. So nice to not have to remove the door boot to get to the latch assembly.
The reason I am focusing on the latch is because of the do and FL codes that flashed as soon as the machine started last night. I loaded it as usual, closed the door, water started filling the machine and then it stopped. there were three buzzes and the codes do and FL came up. Unplugging the machine and restarting it made no difference. Started scrolling around on line and found that this series of events indicates a bad door latch.
Please note this is a MAH5500B machine. Not a MAH5500BWW machine. I am concerned about which latch assembly to buy. I thought I need part number 22004435, not part number 22003593 as you suggest, Grand Master. Please advise. They look exactly the same. The Maytag part number listed on the latch in the machine is Maytag Part# 62721080. Once I know which one to go with, I'll get it!
Any more insight and help you can provide is greatly appreciated. I am so excited to do this myself!

Thanks so much, again!
P.S. The model was changed in my title. I don't have a ...WW machine. I am concerned, with all due respect, this could be a little misleading, Samurai. Maybe the machines are the same, but my research indicates that the top opens differently on the MAH5500B machine from the ....WW machine. Please enlighten me.

Please post a photo of the model number tag on the washing machine itself.
