All Appliantology tech members are invited to join in this workshop on all things Appliantological.
We have a special session planned for this one. Instead of the usual Show 'n Tell on a technical topic, we're going to post tech sheets in the comments to this Calendar Event (scroll down to see what's posted so far) and ask specific questions that can only be answered by reading the tech sheet. If you at least try to answer the questions beforehand, you'll get a lot more out of it. The tech sheet and the questions are posted in the comments section below.
Your mission, if you should choose to accept it, is to check out the questions for each one and try to answer them ahead of time. Then come to the Dojo to see how well you did!
Who: This workshop is only available to tech members at Appliantology.
When: Saturday, April 27 @10:00 AM Eastern Time.
      Where: Online via Zoom
      How:
Click here to go to the forum topic with the registration link. If you're interested, register now. Arrive a couple minutes early to make sure your connection is working. Set a reminder for yourself for this workshop so you don’t miss it.  And check out past workshops here: https://appliantology.org/announcement/33-webinar-recordings-index-page/

Thanks much Grand Master! Defrost problem. Haven't had any error codes since the tech visited prior to the warranty expiration July 2011. But just last week got the freezer fan noise again, and lo and behold, ice coating on evaporator cover! Tech believed that the gasket was allowing too much air to get in and ice up the whole works such that the freezer fan would make noise, and eventually seize up. His solution was vaseline on the gasket...which worked for awhile, but problem remains! So I'm thinking that either the defrost heater is bad (hoping that is the case - cheaper fix), or that God forbid the motherboard is not telling the defrost heater to do it's job. Anyhow, I thought that if I could find a repair manual I could locate the cheapest potential parts, test and replace them. Then if it looks like a motherboard issue, time to find a new box? What say you? And thanks again for your kind assistance!!

Wow - thanks for the quick response! In your experience with these LG machines, are the thermostat and heater the most common culprits for the icing issue? It seemed odd to me that the door gasket "fix" was correct and sufficient; the defrost system must/should have been designed to handle "normal" ingress, as well as the incidental air infiltrations that a minor gasket sealing issue could present?

Thinking that I would be wise to order the parts to be on hand so that I can finish the job with just one disassembly, do you perhaps have a line on a repair manual which could steer my work correctly? I'm fairly handy with minor repairs, but feel like this might be like a dive off the 10 meter board.

Again, many thanks for your help! My wife will be so very happy, and a happy wife is a happy life :-)

Put the rumors to rest...you are a genius :)) In the exploded parts diagram, the link you sent me matches the Sears diagram for the box! I won't ask how you know these things, but truly thankful for your knowledge and kind assistance. Now I proceed with faith and confidence!!

Thanks again

George
