Maytag MAH2400AWW washer -- unbalanced spin due to bearings or damper?

3 posts in this topic

I've got a Maytag MAH2400AWW front-load washer that seems to be increasingly out of balance on the spin cycles -- this was not an issue a couple weeks ago. The unbalanced spin will trigger the SUDS error. I've done a washer clean (a few times) and replaced the pressure sensor, which has not eliminated the SUDS error. So the real issue seems to be the unbalanced spin.

Perhaps the bearings are going bad, or a bad damper? Thoughts?

A SAMSUNG-built compact front load washer (24 inch model).

1) Is the correct type of laundry detergent being used ("HE" type/low suds detergent) ?

2) If the correct type detergent is used---is the correct DOSAGE being used ?

NOTE: The following DOSAGE is *only* for front load washers with smaller-than-3.0 cu. ft. tubs.

HE: (1) Tablespoon Per Washload

HE 2X (double councentrate): (1) Teaspoon

HE 3X: (triple concentrate) : NOT RECOMMENDED in washers with tubs *smaller* than 3.0 cu.ft.

3) Is the tub spin speed accelerating to high rpm---or stalled at slower/medium spin speed ?

4) During spin---does the washer sound like an aircraft engine or rattle/shake/vibration/tapping/banging noises?

5) During the spin cycle---does the TIME REMAINING display---become stalled/stuck at "9 minutes remaining" for more than five

minutes?

Thanks John for the advice. Per your checklist...

(1) and (2) HE detergent, yes; we use 1 TSP as well.

(3) and (4) The tub does spin to a high RPM without trouble and would say it sounds more like the aircraft engine, and least without the unbalanced load.

(5) Time remaining...the SUDS issue seemed to come up at 28 minutes as well as lower times, and then stall at those times for awhile. Will look out for the 9 minute mark...

Also I removed the back panel...and noticed that one of the dampers had slipped partially off its metal hole and rubber gasket at the connection to the tub. Replaced that one, and so far 2 loads have run ok without SUDS error.

Will update if this works longer term or becomes a symptom of other issues...until then, Thanks!
