Sigh.. I realize saving power is a noble goal - but here we go again!

They cite the heater to release as a big waster - I wonder if you could use ultrasonic vibrations to jar the ice free. Or just power it out of the mold. Hmm, maybe it will foster a power saving solution that isn't overly complicated.

Some old styles used power driven flex trays.
Glad they no longer make them.

I saw a new version of a flex tray at a Frigidaire training class awhile ago.Haha, a plastic ice tray that fills with water and then mechanically flex's to drop the cubes. How retarded. Also taught us all about there now discontinued finger evaporator ice maker. What a nightmare that was.

Perhaps they could find a way to run some hi-side tubing up around the flex tray mold to loosen the cubes

Not a bad idea. Set the icemaker thermostat so that it activates a hot gas valve when cubes are formed. Hot gas goes to I/M after dump the HG valve drops out.

Don't get me started on the Electrolux refrigerators, they have an icemaker with it's own evaporator that has had 5 upgrades and some of the refrigerators I've had to replace the main powoer boards more than once for the problem of not self defrosting on it's own.

F&P has been using a flex tray icemaker for about 5 year s which works quite well

Aren't they using flex trays in the some of the Samsung or maybe LG's now also.

Was? I'm still livin' this nightmare about 2-3 times a month...what a effin' stupid design...
